Ian,
In the years I have been riding I have stuck with Gearne...... when bought new I have found they have bedded in quite quickly,
but with you having a look at second hand they are quite comfortable.......I've also tried Diadora but found that I went back to Gearne

since I hydrauliced the piston.... I had to replace the Crank, Piston Cylinder and it was best to get new Bearings seals and Gaskets to get the rebuild done.....
all up it cost me almost $4,500..... but the most expensive part of the Rebuild was the Crank since it came as a complete assembly with ...

I have still got a 2006 Repsol Montesa and it is still going strong..... OK I might have put it in a deep puddle back in 2008 and it didn't like that so Tarp rebuilt the engine for me and a couple of extra $$$$$ put a 280 kit into it....... and I would not change to either back to a 2 stroke or any ...

If you feel comfortable starting off in 3rd that's ok
Sometimes when there is a big hill climb I start off in third just to get the momentum on a short take off.

I had a couple of scratches on my forks . about 4 years ago ... what I did was fill the scratches with 401 loctite which is the Loctite Superglue.... when it dried I just got the finest wet and dry paper and just smoothed them down.....and no leaks so far

I learnt by firstly turning my wheel to the left and placing it on a rock, then apply the brake while the front wheel is on the rock this will cause the bike to stop you from rocking side to side to much ..... once finding your balance on the rock, take the rock away and then make a little ditch ...
