Report and results for RTC Inc Trial at Bostons Property 29 April 2012
The drizzly rain leading up to the trial cleared to a crystal clear day for the event, and riding conditions were perfect.
Section severity was on the easy side for all grades, mainly because the section setters were anticipating the wet weather might continue. As it turned out the limestone was dry and the moist soil was beautifully grippy.
There were three sections (1, 2 and 3) set on the hillside facing the train line where we have had sections three times now, and the combination of rock steps and grassy soil between them were greatly enjoyed by the riders. Being out in the full sun, these sections also made for great photographic opportunities as can be seen on the club Facebook page. Thank you Drew Wickerson and Mark Casswell for posting up the photos and videos.

The other three sections (4, 5 and 6) were set in the creek line above the dam, Section 6 included rounded (granite?) boulders which had tumbled down the hillside when the property was a mining venture many years ago. A couple of the A grade riders took an optional (and spectacular) hard route over the top of one of these boulders. I suspect their scores would have been quite a bit lower if they hadn’t taken that route.
There were two new riders on the day. Glen Hunt rode his recently-and-magnificently restored TLR200 in his first trial and Les Stevens rode his Scorpa SY250R in his first trial with the Rocky Trials Club. Les is progressing nicely from what I saw.
Matt Charlesworth rode A grade for the first time (from B grade) and looked confident
It was great to see the two beautifully presented TLRs together. Glen’s TLR200 looked brand new and Drew Wickerson’s TLR250 still looks like something out of a magazine photo shoot (well it should because it did feature in VMX magazine)
Mark Casswell rode his TY175 well and this time had absolutely no problems with the bike, having recently done lots of work on it to make it reliable and nice to ride. I continued to campaign my Cota 348 and it ran like a dream. This was the 5th trial so far this year for that bike and my confidence level with it continues to grow. Tim Stone rode well on his TY175 and is working on putting a TY250 twinshock together. Timothy Evans rode his lovely KT250 to a win in C Grade and this time somehow managed to avoid getting the bike bogged in any mudholes (just in case anyone had forgotten what happened last time we rode at Bostons).
Neil McLucas rode down to the trial on his fabulous Ducati but was only up to spectating due to being in recovery from broken ribs from a mishap on his enduro bike.
Darcy Lahey rode the GG50 very well on the grassy limestone sections but struggled a lot on the moist rounded creek stones.
Overall It seemed to be a very enjoyable trial.
