I just measured the fork legs and they are 31.75mm (1-1/4").

Unfortunately my fork legs measure 31.75mm so the ones on eBay would be a bit loose in the triple clamps

I have stripped and cleaned out an old speedo drive but I don't understand how it attaches to the front wheel to drive the internal gear ?.
Any clues.

I've discovered that there is a drive bracket missing from my speedo drive.
I think it should be screwed to these three holes on the worm gear.
The bracket then fits into these slots in the front wheel hub.

Yes and the tangs fit in those slots in the side of the hub

While I wait for the parts I ordered from Vallmoto in Spain to arrive I started tidying up some aluminium and polished the handlebars and levers.
Came up OK.
I had assumed that all the fasteners on the bike would be imperial but I noticed the the bolts holding the handlebars in place were grade 8.8 so they must be metric.
Would this be correct for ALL of the fasteners being metric.

I have never found anything but metric threads on my Spanish bikes. Warning though there are some odd metric size threads like 7mm (OSSA kickstart and OSSA handlebar clamp threads)
Also odd sized metric socket head screws. Cota 348 head nuts are 7mm AF hex socket
Montesa 348 engine cover screws are also 7mm thread
Finding similar things on your 172 will be part of the fun of working on a Spanish bike

Strangely, I was in Masters the other day and saw some packets of bolts marked M7. I thought this very strange as that is a non-preferred size according to the Australian Standards, but sure enough, it was genuinely M7.
Fortunately I have a very good fastener supplier near by.
