WHERE HAVE ALL THE CLASSICS GONE??

Postby logan » Wed Sep 23, 2020 2:25 pm

Hi all,

Just to let you all in on a little secret,

All of the Classics have gone to Stanthorpe !!

Well not yet but very soon... not this weekend, but next weekend on the 4th October All of the classics will descend upon the Leighton Property on Nundubbermere rd Nundubbermere near Stanthorpe for the very first AMA Pre 65 Classic only Trial!

If you have a Pre 65 trials bike and $10 bucks in ya pocket get yourself and your machine out for what promises to be a world of fun with all the sights, smells and sounds of Classic Trials.
The AMA rules of eligibility have been set to promote Classic bikes and the availability or lack thereof period parts , if your barrel is triangle , square, round, oblong or any configuration you are welcome however please insure there is a piston inside!!

The AMA Classic rules have been compiled to be inclusive, taking into account the countries around the world that have seen large growth in the Pre 65 class.
Please see rules attached.

Classics.
Trial bike based on an image of a machine built before the end of December 1964
A machine using an engine and gearbox available at that time, unit or pre unit, or a derivative of this engine or gearbox, maximum of four speeds, the basic design even though up rated over the years past 1964 was still a development of that basic design therefore still complies with these rules.
a. Front Forks: should be of pre 65 appearance, internals can be of late manufacture, maximum staunchoins diameter of 35mm.
b. Carburetor: Open
c. Frame : Should be a silhouette of one built before 1964 but not necessarily one in production, and a replica of known frame design should be sufficient.
d. Brake Drums, rims, ect should be ones available at the time. No disc type brakes permitted.
e. Wheels and components made outside of the period can be used but must be visually indistinguishable .
f. Ignition system: can be of electronic design.

A full copy of the AMA Trials Rules will be Published shortley on the front Page of Trials Australia.

Please Note: The NSW Covid Bubble has now been increased and we welcome anyone that can get there and wants to ride.
See You All There!!
Cheers

Congratulations guys, a fabulous initiative and I’m hugely disappointed that I won’t be able to get there.
The most important points for me are around eligibility. At last there is some sense in the rules and having just read the MA ‘head in the sand’ (or elsewhere) attitude to Classic Eligibility with the rules committee’s rejection of changes supported by the majority of riders, seems to me that AMA has got it right.

Yeh, looks to me like a good initiative too. Hope to be there.

They sure did go to Stanthorpe!

In fact they flocked there to Robert Leggit's very accessible property with its excellent trials terrain

Never seen so many Classics in one place before; 16 Pre65 bikes with several riders doubling up, so close to twenty entrees.

If I recall correctly, several Cubs, a few Bantams, a couple of Vibsas (Villiers-engined bantams), two Hondas including a Benly 150 twin (the best sounding bike there!), a B31/A7 (pre-unit) Bsa, a C15, a B40 and a James. Have I missed any?

Excellent initiative by the Trials Club of Qld and a tremendous event run under the AMA with minimal costs for the entrants.
(Day licence $10, entry $10.)

Great response from the riders. One Bantam was built in only 6weeks, finished on Thur before the event.

Sections set out superbly to suit the old bikes. Every rider seemed to be having a ball. Huge smiles all round.

Everyone from the club involved in running it is to be complimented and highly commended.

Pics to come

Did Pete Gatley get his Bantam to Stanthorpe ?
Looking forward to Pics.

He certainly did Shane. That was the Bantam built in six weeks.

Robert Eyres took a host of excellent pics as clear as crystal. Follow this link to find about thirty, including Peter's D7 Bantam
