Pyrotechnic maintenance

Postby David Lahey » Sat Oct 03, 2020 9:06 pm

It might take 46 years but eventually our beloved 1970s two-stroke trials bikes reach the point where they have part-burned enough fuel to clog up the exhaust system with carbon and gunk.
Recently our own tat ty's :yamaha TY reached that point and the exhaust gunk was cleaned out using a time-honoured method.

I'm told that the cooking was managed by waiting until the fire was down to a dull roar before putting the exhaust in and a chain was attached to enable retrieval when it was considered to be cooked to perfection.

Some of the cooked internal detritus:

Afterwards the exhaust was a lot lighter and enjoyed much better breathing

relax, nothing is under control

Forget the exhaust. I'm looking at those beautiful green paddocks! So nice.

Well bloody hell.

I took the beloved TY out today ... Rather ... He took me! I reckon easy 25% up in HP.

Guess if you had been relieved of a piece of 4x2 up your CLACCA ( thank you Jacquie Lambie ) for most of your life, perhaps would be feeling a whole lot easier about everything.

Alastair.
