The bottom photo is George McKenzie in 1977, riding a modified RM250A.
George was sponsored by John Walmsley to ride this bike for the 1977 season. I can't remember everything that had been done to it, but some things were the forks had been modded in some way to increase the travel, the motor was somehow hotted up (maybe a different ignition) and it had a special aluminium swingarm which had been made by Brisbane metal fabricating whiz Vern Grayson. At that time, John Walmsley was racing a RM370A with the same design special swingarm. For those who don't know, at the time, John was a recent ex-Aussie MX champion who ran a motorbike shop at Capalaba. From memory the shop started as Maico then was /Maico then then .
Vern was a sidecar MX racer at the time and I still remember enjoying spectating while Vern Grayson and Georgina Reeves flew around Tivoli MX track on a Yamaha powered sidecar.
John is the one with the dark open face helmet and mouthguard. George has the white Moto 3 helmet.
I think I took these photos at the practice track at John's farm at Mount Cotton.

Re: Old photos and memories
Hi Everyone,
Love your work with this thread!
Can someone correct me if I am wron..............wron............dammit ! Incorrect from left to right:
RV 90 (back view), TS 100, RV 125, RM 125/250, GS 400 (road bike), TS 185, TS 125 (rear end), RV 90 front end and two uninteresting small bore road bikes that I am not interested in and maybe a Maico on far right?
Oh, there is a European, maybe Spanish bike sideways in the background but no one on here would interested in that one!

Wow you've sure got amazing vision Greg. Here is a shot inside that shop. It will be good if you could identify the bike in there too
The people are John Walmsley and I think the person with long hair is motorcycle mechanic Ray? Crouch

Re: Old photos and memories
Here's another fun photo from the past. It's Trevor Flood riding an OSSA in the 1974 Aussie Trials Titles at Casino.
Photo courtesy of Peter Paice and I think it is from a newspaper report of the event.

And another great old photo courtesy of Peter Paice taken in 1978 after the Trans Tasman Trial. This is the four person Aussie team left to right: Steve Holzhauser, Rob? Luscombe, Peter Paice and Jeff Gough

Re: Old photos and memories
Greg, for what its worth I think you've mistaken a Kaw KE/G4 100 for a TS100. (2nd from left) Kaws had up-pipe on LHS.
Dave, Walmsley was my hero. He came to Gladstone for the big Easter event in 71 with a brace of brand new Maicos (125, 250 & 400 - sponsored by Brisk Sales), along with a host of other southern A-graders too. He blitzed the field all day. It began my love of Maicos too. (which has long since passed)

I think that John must have been a motivating influence for George too because George raced a 250 Maico at some point before John sponsored him on the RM250.
