Re: South East Qld trials 1974-77
This is definitely not Trials but it is a Trials bike and it is in SE Qld in 1976.
I took these photos of a Uni mate's girlfriend riding my TY175 around the short-circuit dirt track at Tivoli.
I rode that (road registered) TY to Tivoli and back home as per normal practice in the 1970s.
Of course I had a decent flog around the dirt track but with a helmet.

Re: South East Qld trials 1974-77
A couple of trials crashes.
In the wheelie fail photo taken at Lacey's Creek Upper Property, the rider technically hasn't really crashed yet because he is still holding onto the bars. I'm not sure who the rider is but suspect it is one of the Dallas twins from NDMTC.
The other crash is a very standard whoops on creekbed rocks and I can't remember his name but he had just bought the bike and it was the first post-slimline 350 I had ever seen.
*edit* After a close look at the bottom photo I reckon it's actually a

Re: South East Qld trials 1974-77
More crash photos in this group taken at a trials at Tivoli complex. The steep jump-up was part of the MX track - maybe the back side of a big artificial berm turn and it sure caught lots of riders out that day. I saw one TY175 fly through the air all the way to the bottom.
The rider on the Cota 247 is Greg Draper who later became the president of NDMTC and was blindingly fast on that 247 when trail-riding

Re: South East Qld trials 1974-77
A weekend at Lacey's Creek upper property in 1977.
This one is easy to date as 1976 because in one of the photos is Shane Grant's brand-new Cota 348 that he brought out to test ride. That bike, that day, was why I had a lifetime mission to own a Cota 348.
We had trials and enduro bikes there and enjoyed both. The Sherpa T belonged to Robert Kindness, the IT175 was mine and George McKenzie had his highly modified RT3-based enduro bike there. My TY was hiding in the shed. The Falcon XL wagon was mine and the Toyota Crown ute was George's.
My riding came to an end that weekend after crashing the IT and breaking my foot. You can see me trying out thongs to see if it hurt less to walk

David Lahey wrote:This was at a track near Beenleigh and was the last event to be held there before it became a housing development. I think it was called "Broadwater Estate"
It had rained a bit and many riders couldn't even get around the track. Not much speed happening that day.
I guess it must have been whatever year that radial-fin head MAICOs appeared which I thought was 1976, but where are the RM s if it was 1976? So it may have been earlier.
Great to see people still riding TM125 s and round barrel :Bultaco: Pursangs amongst the :Honda: Elsinores.
In all those bikes I could only see one .
Dave, very interesting pics.
The radial finned 400 Maicos came out in '72 and the 250 in '73. (I had a '73 250) A couple of those pics are of a 400. The 250 Elsinore came out in 73 & the 125 in 74. There's a couple of pics of each of them. The round barrel Bultaco is a 125 Sherpa S, the model I started racing Juniours on. Tho that one has pursang-style paint job.
My guess is that it's a '74 event (cos of the 125 Elsinores). TMs were still quite popular then, especially the 125. Also 74 was the year we all started moving our shocks forward and a couple of the bikes (Maicos) can be seen with that. Also what looks like a YZ125 with shocks laid forward. They came out in 74 too if I recall correctly. You can just make out # 34 on the 400 Maico. Jim Scaysbrook, a Sydney A-grader, was #34 in NSW on a 400 Maico. He could have been up for the day. He's now the Editor of Australasian Old Bike Mag.
Quite a treasure trove you've discovered

This is the full set of negatives from a 1975 trial at Biddadaba that I posted some photos of photos from previously. Hopefully these are clearer images

Re: South East Qld trials 1974-77
I'm not certain but this looks a lot like the same MX track that held the muddy event at Beenleigh. Especially posted for John Cuff

Really good to see some old photos David. I really like the Motorcross ones too. I bought my first bike at the end of 1976. A Yamaha AT3 MX 125. I also left school in 76 too!

Classic 'Scramble' pics.
Thanks Dave.
Lot more females competing back then, judging by hair styles.
