YAMAHA TY 175/250 For sale or swap maybe?

Postby Greg Harding » Wed Oct 02, 2019 6:51 am

Hi Everyone,
David Lahey wrote:Greg the rear guard on the bike you got from Robert looks like from a TY mono.

David, the guard on the :Honda: TLM is parallel and I think the :yamaha TY Mono ones are all wider at the front?

These were never really my thing back in the day but I absolutely LOVE them now, Fork Gaiters that is. Just look at the job they do protecting the chrome!

a TY250A appeared from the ether

Postby David Lahey » Sun Oct 06, 2019 5:24 pm

This :yamaha TY250A recently appeared at my place thanks to a friend taking a punt.
It runs! The seller put a new fuel tap on it and gave it a go and off it went - amazing. The clutch even released.
First I'll post some Greg Harding style photos of the poor thing resting on the dirt (but without any chooks to comfort it) then I'll post a few detail photos and discuss some things about it.

There are a few things about the bike that tell me that it hasn't seen much rough stuff or crashing, which is pretty rare for a bike with this much patina.
The first is that the frame lug that the muffler mount is bolted to is cracked but hasn't broken off yet. Amazing

The next is that it still has the original shocks, which are very easy to bend. Yes they are fairly shagged but they are still there.

It still has the original genuine Yamaha-Stanley tail light on the original rear guard. I figure the owner was either very good at wheelies or didn't do wheelies

Most amazing for me was to see that the original sliding killswitch knob on the twistgrip hadn't been smashed off
