It's a no-brainer to someone like me who rides a few comps each year for personal challenge, a bit of socialising and shits and giggles.

In the past I've just bought day licences & kept my own records of my cards so I could see where I might have placed.
Paying for the day licences for myself and my son isn't sheep stations, but I see no reason to pay any more than I need to. Add to that, if I enter an AMA umbrella'd event I get to appear somewhere down in the results and don't have to add up all those 5's ...
The cost of getting included in a list of results (for which the scorers have already done the work) with MA is ridiculous.
AMA looks the ticket.

I did read their insurance policy (yes, I shake my head at myself too) and it looked pretty clear that landowners could easily be covered by including them in the event.

The only downside I see is that presumably anyone who wants to get results counting to FIM will need to ride MA events (not sure this is the way it works in trials, but that's the usual setup with international sporting bodies). If nearly everyone bails from MA it perhaps leaves that handful of riders at the pointy end in a difficult position?
