Electronic Ignitions for older bikes.

Postby Rod » Sat Dec 23, 2017 7:06 pm

What are peoples thoughts on after-market electronic ignitions for old bikes such as as Sherpa T's and Cota 247's, I'm liking the idea of set and forget if that really is the case.
Is there a particular brand or manufacturer that provides a good product or more importantly is there one that should be avoided ?
Cheers.

Hi Rod. I use an In Motion CDI on my M199B and it`s brilliant. The biggest improvement is the auto advance curve. You can really feel that working. My M199 and my M159 both have standard Femsas on them and neither of them is as lively as the M199B. With the CDI you can have a smooth bottom end as well as an explosive top end whereas with the stock ignitions you have to choose what timing you want to use. The In Motion ones also use the stock flywheel. The not having to retime after every trial thing is also great. Maybe I`m just getting lazy in my old age. Graham.

Thanks Graham, do you know if that's an Electrex World kit that In Motion sells ?

I don`t think so Rod. I think they have them made for In Motion. I have had that one on my Sherpa for about 5 years now with not a problem. I do pull the flywheel off every so often and just clean everything up inside but that`s it.
