the bike starts and performs fine for about 30 mins then dies suddenly. once it has cooled it will start and work again.I have been to a mechanic who said the valves needed adjusting. This didnt fix the problem. the carb. and plug are fine. I was wondering if the problem was electrical.

You can test if it is an electrical problem by testing for an ignition spark soon after it dies

Another thing to check is that the fuel tank breather is free breathing

Sounds like an electrical problem, but these are pretty rare on the TLR which generally have 100% reliable electrics! Its worth checking the green earth wire from the CDI unit to frame is grounded properly, and all the other connections are ok.

Most often though on bikes that stop when they get hot and restart when cold, its going to be a problem with the insulation on the source coil within the generator breaking down, and shorting the windings to earth.

This is quite hard to check out though, as in most cases as soon as the coil has cooled down it will work fine once more. However if it looks like this might be the problem, then someone who specialises in rewinding coils, should be able to check the coil properly, but obviously it will need to be removed from the bike.
