250 V 290, 250 v 270 Sherco/Beta

Post by car.davies »

I'm curious if anyone has any input on the differences the 290 and 270 versions of the Sherco and Beta makes against the 250's of the same bikes. Same same the 300 version of the Gas Gas. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi Car,

I've owned a Sherco 2002 290 and now a Sherco 2006 250.

The 290 was my second Trials bike and used to feel it far too powerful for me. But by the time I got the 250 I had leanred better clutch control and that's really the key to power control on any bike.

I do have a personal preferance of a 250, becuse it revs up a bit quciker from idel. But in reality if you become the "master of the clutch"...there's no bike you can't ride.

In comparison I have a 2002 Beta 250 in my garage too. The so called "smooth power delivery" results in a engine that's a bit slower to wind up...and I keep missing that small pop of power you need to ride down a large step. Which results in the bash plate hitting on the way down. But it's all personal preferance and "horses for courses"

But clutch conrol and Trials go "hand-in-hand"

Best of balance.
