How many Bultacos did Richard Marken own? That's the third ex-Marken Bultaco I've heard of lately.

Re: Show us a picture of your Twinshock or Classic Trials bike
sorry i meant richard
i wonder how many didn't survive the operating room?
have seen some good specials though - (single shock sherpa and a frontera special)
i contacted richard after i purchased the bike to ask what other mods he made, but he couldn't recall.

Another ex Marken Sherpa is ridden regularly in SE qld events in Twinshock class. It's a 199B (340) but with a 325 motor, Fournales air shockies and did have disc brakes for a while but has Bultaco brakes again now (to make it legit for Twinshock class).

Re: Show us a picture of your Twinshock or Classic Trials bike
this may not be the correct topic to ask - but here goes
having a (period & worn out) flatslide on the sherpa - do you think it is an improvement on the bing? haven't ridden another
325 sherpa before, so don't know what to expect - the bike crawls well at idle - 11/54 sprockets - (does surge a bit) and is very responsive when you give it a handfull of throttle.
i'm not sure if it is the carb or the elect ignition that has the most influence.
i have a std bing on it's way - should be able to try it on the weekend and see if any difference.
i'm playing it safe with the bing - i don't want to go through the same drama i had with a different carb on my MK10 (still not sorted)
thanks

Re: Show us a picture of your Twinshock or Classic Trials bike
Flat slide carbies do offer better response with everything else being equal. The aussie rules for twinshock trials don't mention it (yet) but they are excluded in pre-75 MX.
I think they look too different to a round slide so I wouldn't use one on an old bike for aesthetic reasons.
It's pretty common to see VM (round slide) Mikuni carbies fitted to Sherpa Ts.

Re: Show us a picture of your Twinshock or Classic Trials bike
Here's my old 198b (ignore the side panel decals) - had it since new. Took it to the Masters Games last year but bent the clutch pushrod whilst helping Peter Arnold set the sections - so didn't ride it in the end. Its now undergoing a resto with a re paint, new seat, new set of Falcon shocks and a new plastic tank (saving the original slab ali tank) but I have couple of questions if anyone can help,
- What's the best Mikuni set up on a standard 250?
- Will the original tank slide transfers stick to a poly tanK?
Thanks in advance

Paul
Chris Sandal-Hay from the Hunter Valley did a very nice job with the jetting on a 26mm Mikuni on his M198 or M198A last year. Chris had it running like a dream but he also had fitted a reed valve so the jetting specs may not be useful on a standard 238cc Sherpa motor. I think Chris looks at this forum so you might get more info from him.
No idea about the original transfers going onto the new replica plastic tank. I thought those new plastic tanks came with graphics already in place. I know my M198 still has the original graphics on its plastic tank and they still look good so they must stay in place pretty well!

Re: Show us a picture of your Twinshock or Classic Trials bike
hi there paul
my sherpa has an old replica poly tank (i asume it is as it is plain blue) and in my case normal decals will adhere, but will bubble due to the fuel fumes leaching (may need a spell check here) out through the tank. not sure on the new ones though - i am still researching if i can coat the inside or paint the outside, as i am in the sign industry i will just keep replacing the decals when they get ugly.
as for the mikuni - this is straight from another trials blog as i was also thinking of a mikuni
"I'm using a 28mm Mikuni round slide spigot mount carb on a #116 Alpina
350;
it's jetting should get you in the ball park.
#169 N-8 needle jet;
2.5 slide cutaway; 5F21 jet needle in the 3rd clip position down;
#140 main jet;
#50 pilot jet but you may want a #40 pilot jet for a Sherpa-T."
also i think on hughes web site they sell mikuni kits with jetting for requested model cycle maybe you could ask them for help.

Re: Show us a picture of your Twinshock or Classic Trials bike
Hi David - Thanks for that - now I'm thinking a reed valve might be a nice idea mmm.
Hi BOGWHEEL - I bought a new tank from Dave Renham when I was over in the UK last year - unfortunatly it has the worng model decals on already, they seem to be silk screened on but a quick test with metho/turps suggests they will be dead easy to remove... so I'll try my set of of slide ons and see how it goes - they seem to be readily available but if your making any I'll happily buy a set. And thanks for the set up info - I'll take a look at the Hughes site too I'd forgrotten about thoses guys.
Hi dad - Thanks for lead on the sealer.
Cheers all and many thanks
