Not sure if that is a plate on top of the front down tubes.
If so, maybe the frame has been gusseted?
would the swing arm need to be longer too or shocks shorter to lay down?

Heres another photo of the same bike to help with working out what has been done.
Both photos courtesy of Peter Paice.

Steve you are the closest yet
The unusual pipe/head clearance and tank/pipe clearance is because of the mod

Re: Peter Paice Replica TY250 twinshock
Well, has the front two down tubes been shortened to raise the engine to gain a little ground clearance. That may account for the bracing ?
Re: Peter Paice Replica TY250 twinshock
Engine appears to have been liftedboth front and rear. By my estimate exactly 1" not 25mm. Also slightly altered swingarm pivot location. This resulted in the reduced pipe, engine, tank clearance. Required bracing and removal of tool box. I bet riders of the time could not work out how he cleared obstacles they snagged on.
Mick Andrews, I beleive had similiar mods at the time and this was possibly the embryonic stages of development which lead to the MAGESTY design.
Am I close?

Yes you are spot on and your ability to eyeball 1" vs 25mm indicate that you probably have first hand knowledge of this bike

I used my superior skills of anaylsis, venier scale eyes, cunning, plain old enginerring skill and eye for detail
. Just possibly discussing the bike with Peter may have provided a minor contribution to my guess

Well done Steve. You did well considering you didn't get help from Peter. The frame is just as scrivo described and the "frame gusset" is actually silver tape, to hide the absence of a toolbox.
I think it's surprising that other Yamaha TY250 riders didn't notice the engine lift mod on Peter's bike back in 1977.
I'll soon be posting some photos of the first model Majesty with tank removed to give a better idea of how John Shirt modified the Yamaha frame for that model Majesty. Peter's bike was made 2 years before John Shirt started selling the first Majestys but the frame mods are similar to them.
