Sherco Gearing Att: Howard

Post by BJ »

Howard,

Sounds like youv'e been dobbed to be the resident Sherco Tech when we can't find the answers at the Sherco website. I have asked Don this one but not heard back yet so I will run it by you.

I have been using my 2000 250 for some trAIL riding of late in order to just get more riding hours in and get my reaction time down. The problem I have is the gearing. Even the steepest hills are 2nd and 3rd and the rest of the time 4th is too low and 5th is too high. I need to up the gearing to get 1st somewhere near second and 4th up halfway to where 5th is.

??? The rear sprocket is 42T can I get a smaller one 36T????

Can I get an 11T front sprocket to replace the 10T (preferred option)????

If I fit an 11T can I still use the existing chainguard????

And no I don't want to buy a Sherco enduro even if the other riders in the bush laugh and ask if they can help find my seat and fuel tank they think must have fallen off somewhere.

All help appreciated,

BJShercs

Mr Shercs,
First off, who gave you my name ????? No worries mate , sounds like you should have been around when they made Bultaco Alpinas, a Sherpa with a tank and seat. As for your problem of the gearing , I have not fitted an 11 tooth, but I think it will run into the clutch slave cylinder, mounted between the countershaft and flywheel, will check on that tonight for you. As for rear sprockets , there will be one small enough to do what you want, either option should allow you to run the standard chain guard. Hope that`s of some help.
Cheers,

BJ,
11 tooth does fit and are in stock, 36 and 38 rear also , so choose the 11 - 36 and give roadracing a bash.

Ok Howard

Send me down a 11t front and the 2004 indoor titles DVD if its off back order.

And as far as tanks and seat goes read my post on Trail conversions!!!

As the buyer of the very last Montesa 348T of Lyall O'brien in 1986 I know all about all about tanks and seats. The wife might even run clubman if I can give her something to sit on!

Now how do I fit a turbo???????? Roadrace??? well at least I won't have any trouble dragging a knee!!!!!

Howard

The 11t sproket works a treat. Took it for a run this morning and 3rd & 4th are great for most trail work with plenty of flexible engine performance. I'm not sure if I would ride a trial on this gearing but 1st is still very low. I can recommend to anyone trying a trials bike out on some of the tighter enduro trails, it's so much fun when you can jump sideways over ruts at 60kmph or ride over all the logs the big bikes have to go around. It's like riding a downhill mountain bike but never having to pedal!

 :P  :P :D
