Differences riding a modern trials bike and twin shock

I am thinking of getting a twin shock trials bike.

I rode a modern 2005 trials bike before for a season or two.

Will I have to forget everything I learnt on the modern bike if I start on a Twin shock?

I rode clubman/ Cgrade before.

If you haven't ridden a Twinshock, have a go on someone elses before you buy one. Theres a high risk of disappointment with the weight, brakes, power delivery and suspension if you have only ever ridden a 2005 bike.
You don't have to forget anything but you will need to tune in to the twinshock. The riding concepts are the same for both bikes at Clubman/C Grade level but it usually takes a while to tune the rider's brain in to differences in the inputs.
The main differences at that level are that you will find the twinshock motor very slow to pick up and the brakes very weak.

Paul, the offer to ride my TY250 stands! Why do riders shy away from riding a Classic bike?? It's as easy as pointing it at the concrete jungle last weekend, wind the throttle and hang on!

On a serious note – one of the biggest differences is not just the weight it’s the fact that the centre of gravity is also a lot higher on an unmolested twinshock because the bars are typically lower and foot pegs are typically higher.

You can fix this to some extent – get hold of bars with the biggest rise, 6 inch minimum 6.5 if you can get them, and if you're handy with a welder, drop the pegs and move them back – the top UK twinshockers move them by up to 2 inches back and down on Bullies Monts and Ossa’s. Can't speak for TY mods but there are heaps of TY experts on here who can help.

As David says brakes are typically crap and pick is oh so sloooowwww – but that’s no bad thing sometimes.

The suspension will also seem strange – much slower to respond – you can fix up the front to some extent with a lower visco oil, 5wt modern shock oil is good start - I have 2.5wt in my Bullie– at the back you can buy some very trick shocks but they cost a bomb so if the bike has rebuildable oil shocks, same deal - try a lighter wt.
