Me.

Post by Nathan S »

Age: 30.
Lives: Yass, NSW.
First bike: 1977 Honda XL175.
Current trials bike: Um, no... looking.

I first got interested in trials a million years ago, through a variety of things - my next door neighbour's TL125, the article in ADB on the Majesty TYs, Hans Rey videos...
Back when I was mountain biking more seriously, I always seemed to be the one trying to ride the tricky bit that everyone else wanted to carry their bikes over... Then a mate got a TY250, and I loved riding it.

Then I got really heavily involved with cars, and rallying them, and also got a real job which placed demands on my time, and I kinda "forgot" about bikes for a bit.

After I got "divorced" in 2005, I started riding both my mountain bike and dirt bikes again. Late in 2005 I entered my first MTB race (the Mont 24hour in a 4-man team - damn near killed me), and early last year I finally got around to racing my first ever motocross - both were things that I'd wanted to do since I was a kid.... I'm dog slow, but loving it.

So I figured I should fulfill my other motorcycling dream (riding trials) sooner rather than later.
The trouble is that the VMX and the rallying and the old cars keep the wallet empty and the weekends busy, but WTF - you only live once, right?

I'm on the lookout for either a twinshock TY or a cheapish, 1990+ trials bike to learn on (shoot me a PM if you can help!:) ).

Current bike collection.
Yamahas:
72 RT1, 74 DT125, 74 DT250, 77 YZ125, 77 YZ250, 80 YZ250, 81 XT250, 83 YZ250, 84 YZ125.
Non Yamahas:
74 XL175, 85 Husky WR400, 89 KTM250GS, 94 TM125E, 99 Husky WR360 (plus the girly's Suzuki TS90).

So yeah, I'm a collector...

There's also about 40 cars in various states of disrepair at home - mostly old Mazdas (yeah, like RestoreMaz, I'm an old Mazda nut), old Volvos (122, 144, 164s, and some newer ones) and old Mitsubishis (RWD Galants and Lancers).

Edit: I also joined the ACT Trials club last year, but only managed to get to one event.

Nathan,

Yeah I am recapturing some time from my youth and doing things I did not do back then. Twenty years away from bikes but back in there with the best of them now. 53 is a bit old to start playing again but what the hell, I darn well enjoy myself just like I am 18. Maybe a few more aches and pains but I can put up with that. :thumb:

Best of luck finding a bike, if you really want one it doesn't take long to find one.

Thread from the dead....

Bought a TY175B yesterday. Aiming for the TCC trial at Gundaroo in August. Will post pics and many stupid questions in the next couple of days.

And three years after it was aked: Yes, 1994 TM125 was pink. Mine's got mostly black plastics from a 1995 model on it, though.

hey Nathan - welcome to the trials forums. A word of warning though. Don't start Cedric Van Heerden on the subject of Volvo rally cars. You have been warned (might be best not to use the avatar showing the Volvo doing motorkhana stuff)
He is easily excited you know
relax, nothing is under control
