about Mark from Childers

Post by Reinald »

Hi,
I'm a 47 yr old kid into bikes.

In my garage I have a Triumph T100 Bonnie 2006 with pipes a cool seat and flat bars, a YZ250h 1981 owned from new, my mates ty 175j that David L from this forum fixed up for me to ride. [and got me hooked big time] I met Dave when he bought my Bully 198 basket case and kindly let me ride a couple of his TY 250 s and his Cota 348 at Brooweena and Connondale. Thats what prompted me to salvage the TY from old mate and lead to my recent purchase, a SWM tl320 1982 which I love [that Rotax engine is sublime].....still that little ty is a cracker for a clubman like me.

My first bike was a Kawasaki KD80 which I rode at a trial in Memerambi [Near Kingaroy QLD] when i was 15 yr old and that was the only trial i ever rode until I rode Dave's ty 250 back at Broweena around 2005/6.

After that I had a 1974/75 Bully 325 slimline, a part owned YZ250B, Kawaski GPZ 750 1984, BMW R65 1986, Moto Guzzi SP1000 1984, in there some where in there I bought the 198 Bully.

I have ridden about a 18 Bunya Mountain org. trail rides on the YZ and 3 black enduros, 2 seasons of Moto x at Dundowran Hervey Bay [2004/5], about 3 VMX rides at Coles Creek [What a hoot], Classic Dirt last year and have ridden the Great Ocean rode on a rental bike from Geelong when I was going to uni in Melbourne in about 1996. Broweena three times, Connadale wdtc trial and one at Denman in NSW [great club great ride].

Next bike will probably be a 70/80s moto guzzi which I will turn into a cafe racer....and i plan to do i lot more twin shock trials and hopefully the Denman clubs 2 day twin shock meet [its a bugger it clashes with Classic Dirt] this year.

Thats about it so get out there and enjoy life and i hope to share some of it with you.

Hey welcome Mark.
Mark has also ridden some of our trials events up in CQ this year on that piece-of-magic SWM and did his first one in Twinshock Class (on the club B grade line) at our lovely damp Scrubby Creek trial last weekend (and survived).
Mark those Bunya Trail rides must have been a bit interesting on your whizzy 250. From what I remember a trials bike would have suited the course pretty well the times I rode it in the 1990s.

A Trial at Memerambi hey? I used to live at Kingaroy and cant remember ever seeing anything decent to ride around there, how many years ago was this mate?

I have seen a few Sherco's around Kingaroy, but from what i know they aren't competition riders

Judging from the dates and ages Mark posted up, you might not have been born when he was riding his KD80 there in a trial.
I remember from my youth that the Kingaroy area was a trials hotspot back then (in the 1970s) and the first President of the Northern Districts Trials Club was a cattle fencer recently moved to Brisbane from Kingaroy (John Hunwick).
The M198 Bultaco basket case Mark sold me was another Kingaroy district bike and parts of it still have the red volcanic dirt staining from there intact.

Hi All, Just back from Sydney on a bot of R and R with the Mrs.

Great to see a thread where we can rememebr the good old days and the good times right now.

Dave - to say that YZ was a big on trail rides is an understatement but when i got it right - Yeah hah and yeah the twin shockers make really good trail bikes especially on some of the gnarly ones around Bell Kumbia and Cooyar etc etc

Hope I see some of you at Classic dirt and anybody heading down to Denman with Dave well - go QLD ers !!!! great club great country.
PS the date fo the memerambi rides [I was about 15] would have made that 1975 ish
