Urgent Help! Bike choice

Post by GaryD »

Hi Folks,

Well I have $2500 burning a hole in my pocket and have a range of choices. Firstly though i'm 5'3" and 65kgs, ride a Z1000 2004 most days and used to ride trials over in UK in the mid 80s (TYs etc).

So the choices I have are, Beta Techno 250 95, Beta Synt 94, Various TYs, Italjet 250 82. I probably won't be competing but will be doing a lot of playing on my property (steep climbs, logs, bit of water etc). I'm only 20mins sth of the QLD border and all these bikes are Newcastle and beyond so i'd like a better idea in my head as to what to be aiming at before I drive 10hrs to get it.
Any tips or help on these bikes would be appreciated, cheers

Buy what you can get parts for! Look through the wanted section here and it will give you a good feel for what is easy to get bits for or what is hard. The main bikes being imported are Scorpa, Gas Gas, Sherco and Beta in those brands you get good support on most older models, after that you are looking at OS ordering in many cases. If you are riding for fun then you will most likely need parts like brake pads and sprockets more often than if you were just competing.

Hi Gary

If you’re into twin shocks as BJWhatever says, go for a bike that you can get the bits for.

Bultaco are very well supported here in OZ. Don Newall in QLD can get most anything you'll ever need, TY's are another well supported model but bits for bikes such as Italjets, SWMs, Fantics etc are getting harder and harder to find, as they are in the UK (I rode in the Uk in 80's Yeadon and Giuseley and Bradford)

2.5K will get you onto most 95/96 'modern' bikes and Beta, GG, Mont, Sherco are all extremely well supported by the current importers (much better 'service' than in I can remember in the UK too)

Don't be shy about having a crack at a few competitions - they are a fabulous bunch of guys and gals and you'll find lines to suit ANY level of skill at club and at open events so have a go.

Good hunting

Hi Folks,

Thx for the advice, it's looking like a Beta Synt 94 is the one :)

I may have a go at comps if the knees hold up (typical crashed knees sadly) so will need to find a club close by.

Cheers
