Extreme TY Owner

Post by TriCub »

It's amazing what lengths some TY owners will go to when they have lost that precious part.
Here is a photo of David Lahey after he couldn't find his TY's swing arm pivots grease nipple.
He has had a problem with putting motorcycle parts in his mouth since his first Bultaco resto in his youth.

Oh why oh why did I put that new MP3 player in the workshop anyway?
If I hadn't been singing along to the music the other night that grease nipple would have been nicely rezinced by now. The worst part of it all was trying to explain it to the x-ray people at the Gladstone hospital

Nice work - is that stainless or titanium?

Thats a great question Mark. I will ask on Tuesday when the surgeon takes them out.
I'm also going to ask why they are so curved, and why they used staples and not stitches, and how do they pull the edges together enough to put the staples in, and what they use to rejoin the muscles underneath.
I wish I could have watched the whole thing - maybe I can get a copy of the video?

Does anyone want to have a go at guessing what the staples are made of? (no fair if you actually know the right answer)

Hi

I take a guess and say 316 stainless steel.

I have had a number of staples myself, pretty sure they are stainless. Ask for the tool they use to remove them (it is dispasable) then you can take them out yourself.

Maybe you should ask to keep them, they could come in handy next time you get a cut in a tyre or something similar.

I'm thinking if its public - stainless;
If its private a lower grade stainless but more expensive and the staff that pull it out will be slightly better dressed but not as funny as the public staff.

I still reckon my work on the ty 175s front fender crack with zip ties was tidier than that....hey maybe I could get the swm yellow coloured zip ties i used on the rear guard to repair the splits below the bolt mounts for my upcoming op :D
