Laia Sanz Training Camp

Post by sdeane01 »

I know entries have closed but I was just wondering if the Laia Sanz training was in fact ONLY open to females?

If this is the case is there a reason why? Was it a time thing or was that what Laia felt comfortable with? MA?

I am not attacking anyone, just i know of a number of people who would loved to have attended and would have benefited greatly. Seemed a shame to be so restrictive that is all. But once again I don't know the reasons why, very happy to be informed why.

Thanks,

Shane

Hey Shane,
Trials is a male dominated sport. Several years ago the FIM realised that they should promote female participants in the sport. So, they started running Women Trials schools. These were traditionally run in Europe between the TdN & the Women's World Champs & all women competitors were invited to attend. I was fortunate enough to attend one in France in 2001, I think it may have been the 1st one, it was highly successful & a wonderful experience.
They are for women only because some women learn better in this environment, they feel self conscious with guys around. Also, some male riders expect more attention & tend to disrupt the learning experience. Women tend to learn in different ways, as well. So, it is all about encouraging women to ride trials in a non threatening environment, where everyone gets attention.
It is also about valuing their involvement. That's why we celebrate the Women's Cup each year.
I am sure you will agree it had done it's job encouraging women to ride trials. We are enjoying the highest number of women riders ever.
Be happy that our Australian women riders are so lucky to have Laia here to progress us all further & see her as a role model to how far any of us can go.
I do hope that has helped you understand the concept.
Regards,
Bev

Thanks Bev and Paul,

That is great that the FIM is running this event in Australia. I guess it is a shame that she could not stay longer and run a men's event as well. Totally understand about what you are saying and can understand the idea behind running a women's only event, just a shame she came all this way and we as a minnow in world trials can't utilise the resource to the potential. That said I am sure there will be plenty of eager onlookers.

Shane

PS Bev, always happy to see our sport grow, no matter who it is and I do reconise the role that the Women's cup has played in this and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on to run our fantastic sport.

Hey Shane,
I agree it is a shame, I think it would also have been fantastic to have Laia compete at the Wome's Cup this year but she really had to squeeze in the training camp between commitments.
It is a wonderful sport for us all. It warms my heart really to see the guys complaining that they have missed out on having some coaching from Laia. It shows great acceptance of women in our sport & admiration of the calibre of rider Laia is, in her own right.
Hopefully, next year we will have a choice of schools to attend, when the World Scene lands in Australia. Bringing willing, top riders happy to stay a bit longer to impart their amazing skills to us all. Here's hoping!
Catch ya!

Re: FIM womens Training Camp, entries still accepted

Post by kevin_zar »

So far have 28 confirmed riders for the Australian FIM Womens Training camp, and we will still accept new participants right up until the end of the camp.
Ladies who want to come along even for part of the camp are very welcome, please do let us know before hand so we can include you in our group activities.

This is a FIM Womens camp, which we have been granted by the FIM. The FIM nominate their leading coach, and cover the costs of that coach travelling to and from the venue, with the hosts left to organise the rest. In this case, we have been allocated Laia Sanz as the coach for the Australian 2011 camp.

Our camp is open to all women in Australia, New Zealand and Oceanic.

Best regards
Kevin Zarczynski
Camp Co-ordinator
Australian FIM Womens Training Camp 2011

Note:
Currently the FIM do not have a mens trial training camp program, nor a under 21 or under 16 training program. The training of the men is the responsibility of the national federations in each country. Some Federations in Europe have established training programs, which take riders right through to world championships eg Italy, France, Norway, Spain have national equip teams participating in the FIM World trial calender.

Hey Kevin,

I must thank you on behalf of all the women riders in Oz & NZ for taking on this task & sorting it all for us, well done!! And greatly appreciated =D> =D> =D>

Maybe we need to be a bit more proactive with the training thing. Each year I am involved with MA's AIS MX/Enduro Camp. This is a full on, 2 week, intense training camp for our up & coming riders in these disciplines. Not for the faint hearted & only for the totally dedicated, who want to work on all aspects of the sport they want to excel in. Lots of the participants have gone on to be very successful, big name riders. We would need to get the coaches really behind this to get it off the ground & have some seriously keen riders, to put it to MA to fund. MX have Stephen Gall driving this, perhaps we need a head coach, of his calibre & vision, to take it on. What do others think?
