Yeah, I gave mine a pre season refurbish - I gave it a violent kick to try to shake off some of last year's dirt.

Does that count?

Might as well post this here because I know the main protagonists are reading this captivating forum string;
Graham, because Cedric is my riding buddy and just loves his "pretend" spanish trials bikes, I am planning to ride one of those "pretend" spanish bikes at the Easter 2 day and the goal Cedirc has set is to get one of those "pretend" spanish bikes to the finish with a lower score than you on your "real" spanish bike. I know anything can happen and probably will, but that is the goal. To improve the odds of my "pretend" spanish bike being the one, today I made a close inspection of the head nuts on my Cota 348 and was greatly relieved to find that no-one had taken them off and painted them.
As much as I like riding my "pretend" spanish bike, and also wanting to help Cedric achieve his goal, I am planning on hedging my bets. My plan is to ride my "pretend" spanish bike one day of the 2 day, and ride my "real" spanish bike the other day. Of course it requires approval from the trial organisers to swap bikes during an event so my hedging plan is still a bit up in the air at the moment - but you have been warned.

Hello all. David, after I picked myself up off the floor after reading your post ( I was laughing rather hard ) I decided I would have to reply and cause an inner state incident instead of an international one. I thought it was really good when Cedric saw the error of his ways after all those years and bought a real Spannish trials bike. I have to say that an imitation Spannish trials bike did beat me at the state titles last year but I`ll use the excuse that I only had about 5 hours sleep all weekend. You realize that the superior performance of the real bikes is the fact that they came with painted head nuts, bolts and washers from new. This is what gives them the advantage over every other Spannish bike. Just to let everyone know I am planning to ride the Easter two day. How could I not ride it now. Mark, In your case a good kick of a TY 175 would be classed as a refurbish by almost everyone that I know. I also have to say that I am surprised at how long this thread has been going for. I thought it would fizzle out after a few replies. and for FM350 what makes you think I was talking about my bike. ( green nuts ) Graham. ps Mark here is another post off me that hasn`t mentioned a certain bike name.

I wonder do only ex works bikes come with green nuts? Sounds like just the sort of mod the Spanish would have done back in the day...............lol

David,
I have not felt the need to actually check...........

I have great confidence in mankind's good nature and so far I have been rewarded in as much as nobody has broken into my shed, and applied fresh paint to my head nuts, their washers, or for that matter, any other fasteners, fixings, motorcycles, parts, or accessories.

I believe that I am quite fortunate that my little TY has not been subjected to the fearsome dangers of fresh paint since about 1975 when it got fresh paint pretty much everywhere, but was somehow lucky enough to have survived the experience nearly unscathed, although a bit orange and white with some silver bits.

Graham Bullylover, the Easter 2 day is getting close now. I hope you have got that blue Bultaco of yours ready to go, because as promised I have been getting my Cota 348 ready to defend the honour of Cedric's beloved Montesa (pretend Spanish) brand.
After riding both the Cota and my Bultaco M49 last weekend at a very rock-strewn trial, I am very keen to ride both at Easter time to provide further comparison riding.
After being accustomed to seeing them covered in mud for the last month or so from riding during our very wet summer, and now seeing them clean again, they looked so nice I took a photo tonight.
Now I see it on the screen I see it's a pretty poor photo. I think phone photos at night are not such a good idea

Hello all. David, yes I am ready for the Easter two day, today I reshimed the pivot on my rear brake pedal (aluminium soft drink can as it was loose) checked my air cleaner and made sure that no one had resprayed my head nuts and bolts and washers. No one had so I suppose I am ready. It should be a good trial. One thing though David I hope you are putting white plates on your bikes though. MQ told us that we can ride white arrows in twinshock even though the MOMS say we have to ride blue lines. I think you would find normal blue lines a shade hard here. I do know I really need more practice though. I still have the rest of the week to go. Also David at least your phone takes photos, mine doesn`t. Graham.

Hi Everyone,

Graham, as discussed about a month ago in regards to my Alpina ignition, I still want to buy the backing plate and assembly from your mate. Look forward to the Easter trial myself as it is always good, as is the shenanigans that goes on leading up to ride time. An old motorsport line comes to mind (When the flag drops, the Bullshit stops!!!!!!) =D>

Hopefully I have timed this just right, ie given you enough time to pick up the parts for me and not enough time for you to paint them!

Hmmmm... I have just painted 6 numberplates blue which were white previously, to satisfy the 2012 MOMs!

David,
What were you thinking?
How can you have read this thread and not be aware of the dangers of fresh paint?
