Fork tube repairs

Does anybody know if fork tubes with gouges in them (2mm wide 1mm deep aprox) can be repaired and if so a name or number would be appreciated.
The forks are off a 1998 Beta Techno.

Hello Pete66. Rad Hard Chroming in Brisbane should be able to do that for you. They can fix rust dimples and I have had a shock shaft done by them in the past.They are at 9 Dollis St, Rocklea, Brisbane and the phone number is 07 33 984 321 and they have a web address as well at www.radhardchroming.com.au That was in the Yellow pages. If you google "forks by Frank" there is a shop in USA that to my knowledge is the only place in the world that makes fork legs on a retail level.

Unfortunately the web site is ancient, and they dont appear to have an email, but Im sure you could call them. Im led to believe a fork leg from them is about $220 - $240 US dollar. All you need to do is measure the length of fork, diameter, and thread types.

If the gouge is too deep to grind and chrome then this may be an option. Have you checked Beta for price and availability?

Could try Devcon epoxy resin (like engineering grade Araldite) - secret is to ensure you take off the sharp chrome edges, and thoroughly degrease with acetone or similar before you put it on - use something like an icypole stick, or toothpick - take off the high spots when 80% cured and then polish with fine wet & dry paper when fully hard. New fork seal & job done. Costs about $20 a tube - most engineering supplies companies sell it.

Rad charge approx $150 per fork leg for rechroming, might pay to take a photo (with a small ruler next to gouge) and email for quote.

I had a couple of scratches in the fork tubes from Rocks and what I did is lightly sand the gouges down to get rid of the rough edges to start with then I dribbled Super Glue into them once they dried I sanded them back so the super glue were in the gouges, that was 4 years ago and thy haven't damaged a seal yet

thank you for all your replys, i ended up sending the forks to hardchrome services in Adelaide. cost around $350, have not fitted them yet but i feel confedient with their workmanship. Cheers again for you help Pete
