TLR Engine Parts

Post by keychange »

Hi

While I have engine completely dismantled I have put together a preliminary wish list of parts - I have inspected the kick start and all looks fine there. Main bearings, piston and barrel all look good - should I replace the rings?

The engine was always smokey on start up - so valve stem seals seems like a good idea as does new cam chain and possible top sprocket and tensioner. Plus an assortment of bolts, o-rings and circlips.

Can anyone suggest anything else I should change as a routine and; I have found all the genuine parts I need from PowersportsPlus at what appears very reasonable prices - plus US postage :( - is there anyone locally that I should try before ordering from the US.

Thanks
Andrew

Hello Andrew. I am not to sure on the four strokes but seeing that you have it apart it would be easier to change the rings now rather than pull it apart again in a few months. I have also been told on the TL`s and the TLR`s to check the head where the cam runs for wear. Some one who knows something about four strokes will reply I am sure. Cheers, Graham.

Valve stem seals, piston rings, cam chain+tensioner slippers, kickstart ratchet+return spring, clutch pack. If kickstart slips when motor is rebuilt it will mean complete stripdown, so always a good idea to change ratchet parts. Also use genuine Honda parts..........pattern stuff is not good quality, and may well mean problems.

- I have dismantled and inspected this closely and it appears sound - the ratchet teeth mesh cleanly and there is no sign of wear. The only suspect part is the large circlip which I have ordered. Is there something I should focus on that I am missing
