The rule change is already in with MA for consideration in the 2013 MoM's.

Re: Flatslides on Twinshocks
Dear All,
I was idly leafing through the letters pages of Motorsport ( What a joy that tome is ) the other day and came across a quote from John Dawson-Damer who was talking about historic/classic motorsport.
I have changed a few words here and there to make it applicable to motorcycles, but here in essence is what he said.
"The better guys will always win, but the real winners are those who can ride their bikes well, enjoy themselves and be an entertainment to those who come to have a look. It is not racing, it is trials and that is the difference."
I think that sums up what the Classic/Post Classic/Knackered old riders on knackered old bikes/Pre 65 movement should be about.
Of course you will always get the A grade pot-hunting barrel-fish shooters decending on any event, but that happens in every sport. The trick is not to pay too much attention to them and they will go away when they realise that their "victory" amounts to not a lot in the scheme of things.
I applaud the Denman Club for stepping up and running the NSW classic championships.
At last we will have aclear idea of who is the best in the various classes.
I will hover at about three from the bottom in B grade and Toby Coleman on his thinly disguised postie bike/generator/lawnmower will win A grade....again!
I welcome any and all twinshock machines to our sport, as long as they have, as Clive.Agi Halls suggests two shocks, drum brakes air cooling and a seat.
I suppose that now is not the time to mention the Fantic 245 I have lurking in my workshop.
It is a disc braked, upside down forked, mono that I have converted to a rigid rear end with a Villers 7E motor.
Thought not!
I will just have to buy a new Sprite, Dot, or Chris Steven's beautifully converted Yam.
Then again, none of those bikes would allow me to win if Toby, Frank, Jeff or Malcom actually turned up!
See you all on the first of July.
Regards,
Joe Henderson

Re: Flatslides on Twinshocks
And another thing,
All you blokes on here know everything so, where in Sydney, or it's environs, can I get a rear brake drum skimmed without having to unlace the rim?
Obviously I need a chap with a lathe with an over eighteen inch swing, but since Cockatoo Island was closed by a stupid government all the really big lathes with sympathetic operators seem to have disappeared.
The tyre will be off of course and I will take the bearings out too if needed, but I would dearly like to leave the rim on the spokes.
Otherwise I will have to take the backing plate out, fit the wheel in the swingarm with a spacer and run the bike in fourth gear at a fast idle as I jam my biggest bearing scraper against the shock mount and gently lever the tip up against the liner.
Much to-ing and fro-ing with the dial guage awaits me.
It all sounds too horrid to bear, I know!
Regards,
Joe Henderson.

Re: Flatslides on Twinshocks
Several posts have mentioned putting proposals into the MA Trials commission and its certainly the way to go.
Unfortunately suggestions for the 2013 MOMS needed to be submitted by sometime last April and therefore if they are submitted after that they will, if approved, only become effective in the 2014 MOMS.
Thats the theory, it will be interesting to see if MA stick to their own strict rules.

Just for clarity...
The Rule change proposal was instigated by the MNSW Moto-Trials Sports Committee last year and has been endorsed by MNSW and the Moto-trials Commissioners. This was all completed at the beginning of the year and within MA time frame rules for inclusion in the 2013 MoM's.
It now awaits consideration by the MA Board.

Re: Flatslides on Twinshocks
Glad to see that in Aus there is at least the possibility of making some positive changes! Here in the UK the very vocal opposition to changes of any kind, and the seeming want to turn TS and P65 trials into a sport to be enjoyed by the wealthy, are the norm rather than the exception!
Why not canvas members of all clubs in Aus running classic events on a regular basis, and get their views on any proposals you have in mind? This seems quite a good way of gaging popular opinion, which is often mistakingly seen as being reflected by those who have the loudest voices (and who are invariably opposed to any sort of changes).

I am no machinist, but in the absence of a big enough lathe, it may well be possible to skim your brake drum on a largish mill fitted with a boring head?

Paul.
Are you 100% sure about this as I have just been through all the MA commision meeting reports and there is no mention of anything to do with carbs.

Has the commision sent it back out to the other states for comment?
