The speedo and cable I am still stuck on. Still haven't received the speedo yet to get an idea of how long inner cable will end up? Anyone have any idea what is meant to go on that threaded section? Everyone I've spoken to is lost so far.

Your cable in the photo is made for a front backing plate like a TY175/TY250. The cable outer end-piece is retained with a wire clip that expands into a groove in the backing plate

I have no idea what a TL125 backing plate should look like but your backing plate cable connection reminds me of 1960s and 1970s Japanese road bike speedo cable attachments.

Your threaded section is for a cast alloy or cast zinc serrated nut to thread onto. The outer cable end for that type of attachment will have a ferrule with a flange. The cast nut pulls the flange against the end of the threaded section.

This is what the cable would look like for your backing plate - for illustration purposes only

Hi David, Thanks for the reply. You are correct. 60s era CT90/CT110 cables fit this apparently. But I had major trouble finding one within my ever shortening time frame. So I pulled the threaded insert out and machined down the end of the cable I had as well as machined up and new insert to go in before the cable end. This is all held in with the original grub screw and works a treat. Just finished it off last night.
We also used an old rear guard and attached a rear tail light/number plate mount I got off ebay and pulled off a fibreglass mould. We've now got a new fibreglass rear guard. I can post up a pic if anyone is interested when we finish painting it.

So we are almost finished. Ended up keeping it all pretty much original look except for the lights. Still need to sort out new rims and spokes and a pair of side covers and decals. But all in all I think its a pretty fitting tribute.
