2005 WR250F

Post by yamaWR250F »

Hey Guys,

i just bought myself a 2005 WR250F, it's my first bike in around 15 years.
Just wondering if anyone can give me some tips in taking care of it (servicing and maintaining)
also wanted to know if there are any major issues with them i need to look out for!

I am capable of using tools (chippy) but am not the greatest mechanical mind in the world, but i
do want to be able to maintain this bike without having to take it to a bike shop.

Thanks heaps in advance guys!!! :D

You might be on the wrong forum mate.
But anyway , these bikes are high engine maintenance. Change the engine oil regularly and filter. The valves go out of adjustment quickly. Standard shim is about 1.8mm , when the shims get to 1.6 after adjustment look at replacing those valves. Hard to start and back firing through the air box will be symptoms . Check the air filter too.
Pull the swing arm pivot apart and repack all the bearings. Especially the 2 on the shock. swivel self aligning type.
Every time you wash the bike pull the dust seals down on the forks and clean the mud out from the fork seals.
And buy yourself a manual and do some reading , it will save you money in the long run.
Cheers
