Hi, I used a tank sealer in my Greeves Tank, 20 odd years ago. the Tanks spent 6 or8 odd years with no fuel in it and the sealer is flaking off, What can I use to remove the old sealer, and start again.
Thanks

Re: Tank Sealer
Which type of sealer are you trying to get out and what is the tank made of?

Re: Tank Sealer
steel tank, I think it was call pet seal, done 15 odd years ago, now all flaking, due to sitting with no fuel in it. only used unleaded premix.

Re: Tank Sealer
I've no idea what pet seal is.
I've had success getting a rubbery type of tank liner out of a steel TY80 tank using a hooked-end piece of wire and lots of patience.
If it is a rigid liner and brittle enough you could tumble the tank with nuts or gravel in it to break it up. Concrete mixers are good for that sort of thing with the tank held securely inside the drum

Re: Tank Sealer
sounds like acetone is the go and a tank repaint afterwards

Re: Tank Sealer
I think I would do the nut and bolt rattle and reseal it with the same stuff.

Re: Tank Sealer
Maybe sending an email to the maker and ask what they use to clean there testing unit ( I hope they did test it ) would get you an answer.

Look down the bottom of this site, http://www.tankcareproducts.co.uk/
It has a remover for Petseal, seems like there is a whole treatment range, as per other products.
I can recommend the molasses treatment to coat the inside of tank for peanuts, as can David too. Do a search on this site, it has been covered a few times if you want to know more.
Edit: reading the Q&A part, looks as ethanol affects Petseal, and Sureseal is the superior replacement product.

I would rather push my twinshock than ride a modern!
