TL250 fuel

Post by machman »

I have just picked up a 1975 Honda TL250 twin-shock in original condition. In fact I bought back my old bike after 30 years...now when I used to own it there was no such thing as unleaded fuel, so I assume I need to run a lead substitute additive in the fuel? From memory I don't think these Honda cylinder heads were designed for unleaded fuel? I am sure there will be someone out there with a TL who can set me right on this.

thanks in advance

The valve seat in those early Honda heads are very hard and it will be fine on unleaded. I'd run the 95 premium and if you are really concerned add a little Lucas Lead Replacer additive.

Hi jeolla.

Yes, original colour is a sort of dark gun metal silver/grey. Its quite a nice colour actually. Where is your location? Just wondering in case we need to swop parts/ideas at some stage in the future...

cheers

Hi MM
I'm danish. Denmark, Europa. My TL 250 was one of maybe max 10 imported to Denmark around 76-78. My pal then had one in my active trialing campaign with my Sherpa 325.
Last year I quite by luck met one and switched even with a very worn xl250R.
My Tl 250 has been a farmbike, never competeted and still on first tires (Bridgestone) and chain.
But second owner did give it a "makeover" with spraycans and a sporty Mx frontfender.
My plan is a original ex but also small twists towards some twinschock trialing..(Although I'm greybearded and not so fit)
