help with ty 250 b

Post by riffraff »

Hi all ok. I just got this old bike and took it for a burn. In general it was a good machine to ride but some issues where immediate.1. The foot pegs were really small and angled down.2. The air mod in the front forks didn't pump up and was sluggish.3. Clutch was much to heavy.4.any advice on what to do with any of this would be greatly appreciated....all in all I was pretty impressed with what the old girl could do

Yamaha clutch cables are top quality and much cheaper than that
Footpeg kits are available from Sammy Miller Products
TY Mono forks are not a bolt-on mod and are relatively rare
relax, nothing is under control

VENHILL cables out of the UK are very good , Teflon lined, and a reasonable cost.
As for your forks , a good clean out and addition of MAGICAL progressive springs and a fresh 10wt oil will improve there action substantionally.
You can go to TY mono forks but will still have to build them up

It's a bit hard to know what is wrong with the air forks without seeing what you have. My mind reading abilities haven't been working to good lately so a picture would help.

Hello, Thomas here, the prev. owner. I used to hook up a supercheap tyre filler upper to the valve and pressed the trigger. It seems like yours isn't pushing the little valve pin in far enough to open the valve and let air in. You will see that as soon as you hit about 15 psi (from memory), the forks will come up about 3 inches.

As for the footpegs, keep in mind that the shifter is the one I modified. The other shifter is the original one and another 10cm longer! Like I said, it must be a trials thing because you need shoes size 50 plus to shift while the feet are on the pegs (which I believe to be original, too).

PS: as for my previous post (newbie help wanted), when I rebuilt the forks I noticed that the top spacers were missing altogether. I replaced those, which turned the forks into "normal". It might just be the age of the springs?

But the pumping up definitely works.

IHey Tom thanks for that... I will get a different attachment and try that with pumping up...wondering if new springs in the shocks would fix that?.. lots of them to choose from to lol :D
