Do's and Don'ts of Trials

Post by samit4me »

Started riding a road bike in 2011, then in 2013 I got a drz400 which I now use both on and offroad. I instantly fell in love with offroad riding (state forest, single track etc). Then I stumbled upon a Youtube channel, which has got me keen as mustard to get involved in Trials as it looks like a fantastic way to improve your skills and it seems like it is full of great people.

Problem is, I don't know anyone involved in trials and I am relying on the internet to get information. So if you could give some advice (e.g. do's and don'ts) I would love to hear it. I have outlined some questions below but feel free to say anything you like if you think it will help.

I live in Brisbane, QLD.

Questions:
  1. Where to ride: our block is only 400m2, so riding in the backyard is out. Bike is not registered, so state forest etc is also out. Is the only option observed trials? How much do they cost?
  2. Bike: I really like the red/black theme, so its either going to be GasGas, Beta or Montesa with its fuel injected 4 stroke. What's your thoughts, 2 Stroke or 4 Stroke (never ridden 2 stroke and want something quite)?
  3. Coaching: Is it worth it and is there anyone who does this in the Brisbane area?

great to hear you like the channel, our western districts trials club is putting that together. we have quit a few members from brisbane, including myself. quite a few of our dirt ride crew are planning on getting trials bikes over the next few months so jump in!

where to ride? once you join a club you can ride the events of all the clubs so there are rides almost every weekend, mostly north and west of brisbane. check out our site here: http://www.wdtc.org.au/coming-events.htm

we've put up a page here about how to get into the sport. one of the sub pages includes a bit of info about two strokes vs four strokes: http://www.wdtc.org.au/interested-in-trials.htm
