TY175 timing adjustment

Post by Tioli »

Hi.
Is there a easy way to set the timing / points on a ty. The owners manual says I need a dial gauge and points gauge. I have a dial gauge but no attachment for a sparkplug hole. I have one of those magnetic multi jointed stands that I guess I could stick to the frame for the job and I guess a ohms meatier will do the opening and closing of the points but is there a easy way a experienced hand would do it?

Thanks
Tioli

find TDC using anything clean that can poke down through the plug hole and touch the piston. Mark the flywheel rim in line with something on the casing like a screw hole. Make a white mark on the flywheel OD 22mm before the first mark.
From there you can set the timing with a buzzer, 12V light bulb, multimeter or a timing strobe
Don't be too concerned of you cant get the gap to match the specs (0.35mm?) - as long as it is more than about 0.2mm the ignition should work fine
relax, nothing is under control
