Montesa 4 strokes ?

Post by Hermit »

Have been looking to buy a 4 stroke (prefer Monty or Beta) but no replies to my wanted post as yet and more specifically no replies to my email enquiries I sent to one importer so maybe someone here can answer this.

Are there many post 2005 model Montesa 4 strokes here in Australia ?
If so can anyone give me any idea of prices on new and used ?

There are quite a few 4RTs in Australia but you rarely see them advertised. People tend to own them for a long time and because they are so expensive when new, and new ones have to be ordered a long time in advance, there is quite a demand for second-hand ones, so sellers rarely have to advertise them on the open market.

Thanks David, I won't give up yet, there may still be some hope.

Hi mate,

Cannot speak about the Monts but being a great bike and a Honda they hold their value well. As they were expensive relative to a 2T bike and sold in limited numbers in Australia they tend to be keepers for those that have one.

Very few Beta REV 4Ts around, only 2008 models. One sold recently in Melbourne on Ebay for around $4k.

2009 - 2014 around 4 - 6 EVO (300s mostly), imported each year so a bit more common.

Current 2014 300 4T is $9800 but a nice one year old bike can be had for around $7200 - $7600 which is the best buying unless you can stretch to a new one.

My beautiful 2013 300 wih a factory pipe and power up kit sold around $7300 from memory and that bike was a real beauty and a snip at the price given it was a 4T.

Bye the way I love them and have had four of them over my time with Beta.

Regards, Haggis

Thanks for the replies, private messages and phone calls, you have all been very helpful.

Looking at bikes sold and talking to owners has given me a good idea of what is available and sale prices.
I finally got to talk to the Montesa importer and glad that I did, it looks like the Montesa is no more expensive than any other bike new or second hand.
Although there won't be any new Montesa's for about 6 months and second hand bikes are not real common, this will give me time to hopefully get a ride on a few of the newer post 2005 trials bikes and unless I find a good second hand bike that I really like and at the right price in the next 6 months I will buy a new one.
All theory aside, I really have to get out and ride some modern bikes, I'm sure they have all come a long way since my much loved TLR 250.

Still very keen on the Montesa or Beta 4 strokes.

I have still got a 2006 Repsol Montesa and it is still going strong..... OK I might have put it in a deep puddle back in 2008 and it didn't like that so Tarp rebuilt the engine for me and a couple of extra $$$$$ put a 280 kit into it....... and I would not change to either back to a 2 stroke or any other bike for that matter.....

I love the power that it has and even after all this time I am still finding that I am still coming to terms of what I can do... sometimes I can find traction where the others can't....

I think the shop at Pacific Park had a Beta 4t when I was there last (this was the last weekend that it was open to the public before shutting for August, so it's unlikely to have sold).

The shop may be open during the NSW state titles on the last weekend of August 2014, you could come and see these and view the bike then. Also try the 'tree' classified site, search for trials bike in motorcycles and you'll get a couple of responses, and one of them is a 2014 Beta 4t for 9k.

since I hydrauliced the piston.... I had to replace the Crank, Piston Cylinder and it was best to get new Bearings seals and Gaskets to get the rebuild done.....

all up it cost me almost $4,500..... but the most expensive part of the Rebuild was the Crank since it came as a complete assembly with the Con Rod...... and that was in 2008...
