Tyre pressure measurements cold/hot

Most of the recommendations for tyre pressure ranges are between 3-5 psi for the rear and 5-7 psi for the front (depending on many variables) but this left me wondering the other day about at what point should this measurement be taken? are these pressures cold pressures? Lets say that I arrive at an event and unload my bike, which has now been in the ambient temperature and exposed to the sun. Would my "cold" pressure be just before I have started to ride, so I set it to my standard 4R/6F pressure and go off riding?

Unless you're doing a lot of trail/road riding in between sections I doubt it makes a whole heap of difference. Using Mt Kembla as an example - I set mine at 3 rear 5 front as soon as I haul it out of the trailer and check after one lap - no difference. Hope this helps

In Qld I have found it varies by as much as 1 PSI F&R after one lap.

My Dunlop D803's will rise by 1 PSI F&R also after a lap or 15 minutes of riding around. I assume the cold pressure takes into account that the tyres will increase in pressure.

I never worry to much after the initial check first up as I'll never be a Cabestany, but if you want consistency in pressure then try filling with nitrogen
