Heartbreak for Suzuki lovers

Post by Trango »

There is a new insurance ad being shown on tv up here in :QLD: featuring an interesting character by the name of captain risky. At one stage he attempts to ride what looks like a RL 250 up a ramp and over a bus. Unfortunatly he misses the ramp and crashes the bike into the side of the bus. I just hope these images are not too distressing for the :suzuki lovers amongst us

I see after posting this topic that the exploits of captain risky have already been commented on "basket cases pg 56". The RL looks to be in good nick so I am assuming Greg thinks captain risky is the basket case. I would have to agree if this is the case

Yes it is an RL250 Suzuki. We built up two bikes for that ad, and both survived relatively unscathed.
The crash was set up on a decelerator line, one for the bike and one for the rider. It takes the BIG impact out and everyone walked away. Shot multiple times and only some broken handlebars and levers!!!

You should have got Jack Field to flip it over the bus.

Does the bike in the foreground have something strange happening with the shifter?

Yes, it looks like it has been modified by welding on an extra piece of rod to bring the shifter closer to the foot peg. Must have been owned by someone who wanted to be able to keep their left foot on the peg when changing gears ( or someone with really small feet )

It was the stuntman (non trials rider) wanting to upshift as quickly as possible. The runup to the bus was not that long, and the RL is not particularly rapid, so every bit of help we could give him made a difference.
