Goodaye guys, I had the good fortune to run into a couple of trials advocates at the Troy Bayliss classic on the weekend. Owen and Simon I think from Vic. Anyways they have sparked a keen interest in my son who is a good dirt tracker and long track racer. My question is where do I start, what type of bike, cc, and brand would be good to start him on ? I am on the Gold Coast so info on clubs etc would be great also.
p.s .....might have to look at someting for me also.

Re: Looking for a trials Bike for a 14 year old + Info
Hi,
Trials is a fantastic family friendly sport that's great for anyone to develop more skills to improve riding across all facets of motorcycling, its also great fun for young and old
all the relevant club contacts are on this site, western districts, mtcq and logan river trials clubs operate between the gold and sunny coasts and west to stanthorpe and toowoomba any of the clubs would be only to happy to guide you into the sport with relevant info
a 125 cc bike would be perfect for your son ,brand doesnt really matter, pretty much which ever color or look you like, they all share major components in one way or another and all of the past couple of year models are very reliable, i tend to look at what parts have been replaced on a second hand bike to gauge what wont have to be done anytime soon.
at present there is a beta 125cc for sale on gum tree, a superb little bike that looks to have been meticulously maintained and is priced well below what you would normally pay for a 2014 with the bonus of a local beta dealer on mt tamborine so parts and support will be easy. bikehttp://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/broo ... 1066409732
hope this helps
Cheers Logan

Ticketyman,
If your son is 14 he can only "Compete" on a 125cc Trials bike at any MA sanctioned event.
It's in the GCR's so don't buy a bigger bike if he wants to ride any events.
Physically there is no difference size wise in most modern trials bikes from 125cc to 300cc and only a kg or so weight difference.
One benefit of Junior riders on 125cc bikes is they need to learn & use more "Technique" to ride up rocks, banks etc.
We all know that "Cubes make you lazy"
Hope this helps you a bit.

There is a non-affiliated Trials club that run regular competitions they may have the discretion to allow your son to compete.
Try SQTA it's in one of the links a couple of posts back.

Hi,
I am selling a 2010 Beta 2T 125, $4800. Professionally reconditioned top end and new long range tank/seat ($550).
I am second owner, 61 y o. First owner was also fastidious. Bike has done little work in last two years as son lost interest after seizing motor; hence new piston.
Bike is in top condition, new grips and slow throttle to suit novice.
Western NSW. I intend to advertise it out of Mildura when I put it on the market.
