Re: Basket Cases
The Suzuki RL was the first brand new trials bike that I had purchased and was the bike to own in those days in the UK.
I had a dig around in the photo album and found the two black and white pics attached which were taken at the bikes first trial in 1978, the National Vic Brittain event at a group of sections called Shirley Brook.
As you can see from the two pics, helmets in the section were optional but you had to wear them on the road between sections, I must have been getting hot to take it off. The bike cost me 600 pounds new, approx $1100.00 in those days, unfortunately I didn't get on with the bike and sold it before it was 12 months old.
In the one pic background is a well known scrambler (MX) Terry Challinor and also Nigel Birkett who is still riding the SSDT these days and I think this year he rode it for the 42nd time, an all time record.

Hi Everyone,
No Terry, not the Baxter.
Nice period photos Roger, you look to be getting along Fine!
Interesting that no one has suggested the Quiet achiever that won Post Classic at Thunderbird Park Aussie Titles 2010!

Re: Basket Cases
Hello everyone,
David it's not me. I have ridden an RLbut not at a trial. Josh Lewis has won Twin shock masters, but it's not him either.
I'll have to put me thinking cap on!
Chippy

I observed at that event, and you'd think I'd know, but my memory is pretty crap. By any chance would it be Jamie Isherwood?Greg Harding wrote: .......... Interesting that no one has suggested the Quiet achiever that won Post Classic at Thunderbird Park Aussie Titles 2010!

Re: Basket Cases
Maybe it's Greg Harding. The rider seems to be wearing a state-of-origin shirt and there was a state-of origin trial recently, and he does have an RL or two. I'm thinking the photo has been made black and white to hide the colours on the shirt

Hi Everyone,
Mark, your memory works fine, just sharing mine: On one of the days you had a Duesy of a section with a Red clay splash pond at the start on to black undulating rocks at a venue that hadn't been ridden for 10 years. It looked like you spent most of day clicking 3s and 5s!
Jamie is the one person I thought would have been suggested first, but no it is not Jamie!
David, it seems pretty much every one on here knows I own RL's and NO it is NOT Me! You have me thinking now as I don't really follow football, here is a photo of what I think is the BLACK and WHITE riding shirt:

Re: Basket Cases
Yes, just to side track the conversation for a moment, I was so glad to be observing on that section and not riding the mongrel thing. It was a constant source of amusement watching as talented riders found all manner of different ways to fail that section. There was no one single spot - it caught them out all over the place for all manner of reasons. The ones that really had my admiration though, were the sidecars that made it through. They were just unbelievable.Greg Harding wrote: ...... It looked like you spent most of day clicking 3s and 5s! ...........

Hi Everyone,
David, I am pretty sure Jamie is the only Isherwood on the trophy. Like usual, your line of thought is on the right track and you are closer than I think you realise.
Mark, I also remember some impressive rides. Perhaps your memory is better than you Thought?
