Prepping Bike for Competition
Just got a bike & wanting to start competing again, (not ridden in Australia at all, used to ride a bit in UK 10 yrs ago) looked on the QLD events & likely join WDTC & SQTA (living on Sunshine Coast) main questions are what do I need to do to the bike regarding lanyard, sprocket guards etc, anything else that's mandatory rather than rocking up & not been allowed to ride. Thanks in advance. John

Hi Sharpy. You will need an operational Lanyard killswitch and sprocket guards on both the countershaft and rear sprocket. I saw on your other post that you bought a modern bike so it should have the necessary sprocket guards on it. To ride a trial you will also need a pair of trousers, a pair of calf length boots of leather or a similar durable material which means Gum boots are legal and an approved helmet and a shirt. Your bike just has to be safe with clogged up handle bar ends and no broken ends on the hand levers. If you need to you can find the rules in the MOMS at the Motorcycling Queensland web site. www.mqld.org.au, the trials part starts at chapter 23. Graham.

Thanks guys, another couple of questions, reading the regs they say bar ends are enclosed - does this mean new grips are ok or do I need the solid bar ends, also the nameplate - is that just a number board where the headlight was with your name on ?

Hi Sharpy. The handle bar ends have to be plugged up. You can use metal or plastic end caps or just grab a tree branch the right size and hammer it in and then saw the excess off. Have a read of the MOMS and you will find the number plate has to be a certain size with the letters a certain size as well.I just looked it up and your plate has to be 200mm x 150mm plus or minus 10% and the letters have to be 25mm high. You also need the correct colour for whichever grade you are riding. Graham.
