When I lagged the expansion chamber with the sound deadening material it trapped the heat inside. The effect of that was to speed up the pulses traveling up and down the pipe.

One way of adjusting the characteristics of a pipe is to lengthen or shorten it. If you lengthen it the pulse takes longer to travel up and down so is suited to bottom end (slower revving)
The retained heat made my desert pipe (mid to top end pipe) into a road race pipe so in an effort to bring it down I added the exhaust spacer and orientated the porting to maximise bottom end.

This all worked but as I am increase the gearing ratios it's starting to show a weakness in the bottom end by not spinning instantly. A easy way to fix that is take the sound material off. Taking the material off will cool the pipe and revert it back to a desert pipe the spacer will change it to a woods pipe. (Bottom end). At this stage I have more than enough top end.

If I am going to take the material off to cool it there is a chance for a little experimentation.

My understanding is sound/pressure waves travel in a straight line and change direction by deflection. This is different to how the exhaust gas will behave and the exhaust gas is a lot slower. Now I'm new to this thinking so I don't know what's right. So this deflection business is going to be messy as bends don't suit straight lines.

As the pulse wave travels down the pipe it will get all messed up reach the end cone and be reflected back. The end cone is visually quite a shallow angle so it orientated to a broad rev range. If I can use the sound dreading material to my advantage by placing it on the slow side of a bend I may be able to get two advantages:

One it's going to help keep it quiet. Im thinking the sound is pinging mostly out the out side of a bend.

Two the slow side of the corners will retain there heat by having the sound material and hopefully speed the wave up so it presents a more even front for a stronger pulse. Stronger pulse means better packing and hopfully biger bang.

If this works the wave may work better by having the slower waves speeded up to match the fast waves. A straight pipe will do its bounce back better than a bent wiggly pipe I'm thinking. Making the slow side move faster could even out the wave front.

And there is the thing which is the slow side of a bend.

This is where I'm at at the moment with the Tioli trick. This is all based on thinking that its heat that speeds the wave front and not preasure generated by heat? by having the sound material on the slow side it will radiate heat back in which could be radiated out on the fast side. This way I can get rid of heat to move the tuned length down and even the wave front out to increase its effectiveness

Other thing is I like that motor, It has spirit.

In its current tune when you are in the topend your wheel spinning. Somehow the taller gearing makes it more mellow. You don't have to be flat our to be in the powerband, has more bight hookup.
In sixth the only way your getting to it in a hurry is by fifth delivery. But once in back off.

The bottomend is one or two on the rear sprocket to small. I don't know that I want to mess with the formula.
there are other loose sound deadening material panels that when hot may pull out. I like the look of that pipe its unique.

I left this alone because my extender plates for the KIPS fixed the problem. I it's time to have a little play with an unturned stone.

My understanding is this spring and ball tensioning system is adjustable.

The standard setting is two washers

So if I go three I should reduce the drag on the drive shaft for the powervalve. That could make the powervalve open earlier.
Now this may seem easy, the problem is it's designed to open at the same time as the timing retards.
How earlier will it open and how will it react to more advance?

I am going to be kicked off this sight it's just a matter of time, for sure.

I'm having a little change of direction.
I have done a lot of work to this bike. Strangely enough I recorded what I did on a Versys forum. Seams like a long time ago, l wonder what's changed.

Went back and had a look to see and the only photos that are still there are a few pics in members gallery. Seems my posts on how to pictures have lost there connection to photo bucket. Shem I don't have them anymore.

This is a very early one. The deal was with a factory top box and rack. It took over 6 months for the parts to turn up.
By then I'd made a gravel plate, rim tape, and playing with the suspension and screen.

This was back of the Huon. They were doing some login out there and we found this old track, so we followed it in.

I had another ride. Much the same conditions I dident give it to it as much.

The powerband comes in slightly earlier but softer. You notice the lack of bottom end for a while I ran it the same settings as last time. Wasn't the right setting so I went about 1/5 leaner. Still a bit bogie so went 1/5 richer
Sort of lost interest in that as nothing stuck out as wrong and it was time to ride home. All in all considering very nice.

I'm not to sure when the decision to buy this presentation was made.

Now that we are hear it's not a bad frame I'm told.
Bluto forks, good start.
XT running gear and brakes. One level of running gear down one from professional.
As a good a start as any into the ebike world.
It's Time to level up.

Hmm well I don't have the tools yet so I will just have a look.

image.png
image.png (1.56 MiB) Viewed 6943 times

Motor is oiled, solid and cold as a cold lump of metal is. Doesn't matter I will put the life into it.

The throttle has a nice smooth solid action. I wasn't to sure if I was getting a half or full twist grip.

Gear shift sensor plugs in some where.

Display is there

The bling ring is a special option.

Now where to put this stuff and all the rest that's coming.

I think my first problem is I have to extend that to fit me. It seems the frame measures to around medium and small and I'm deffently a large.
image.png
image.png (1.65 MiB) Viewed 10002 times

Second one is the battery box is to big. If I ever make my own with high power batteries it could be smaller
image.png

This bike came with a quality 9 speed / sproket rear gears. And it's giving me no end of trouble. I want to put a big granny gear on it. As big as the front sproket. Problem is 9 speed is old technology and they only make them for 10 and 11 speed rear sprockets. They all have to work in the same outside measurement. I would have to think if you used quality 9 speed gear it would have to be stronger and longer lasting than the skinny 11 speed.

There is a ebike rated extra long 9 speed chain available. Extra long is real handy as a big gear on the back will need a much longer chain.

Iv stuffed up.
I think I have every mistake I can think of.

While I was thinking what I wanted from this motor I got a bit to click happy with Allexpress and colour coordinated a white bike.

It was simple only three colours. White and black with orange wheels. I seem to have been hasty which is a shame as I like white and black.

I like the frame, like white.
My concerns are:
I reasonably the stearing angle is bigger for a cruiser not technical tight.
I don't know how much to extend the stearing head
Is it possible
The triangle is to small. I would like more room for a carrier and radiator.

I might have to put this frame on hold

While I explor this. Apparently the gemority is exactly what I'm after.

What a mess I'm going to end up with, a real shmosil of colours this is going to be, blue, white, yellow, black, orange, silver, red and gold.
Well if I have learned any thing is just put it togeather and then figure it out.

I bought this battery because it's grunty if I ever get into this I could make a 52V 30ah the same size with 30% better batteries.

That looks about perfect.

Love the frame layout. Apart from the bend in the seat post tube the rear is a strong triangle.

The bend in the seat post will take some of the stiffness out of it.

The bend on the top tube is not a straight line to the rear axel.

The bottom tube is braced under the stearing head to hold it in place.

I think this frame could be a little fluid.
image.png

I can't line the frames up to compare gemority

Laying the frames like this only lines the heads up in n one angle.

Line the bottom brackets BB up it makes the seat tube out of alignment the rear attaches axel mounts about a 1cm back and up.

Another example of just put it togeather and then figure it out arrived. I was thinking white rim tape would look better with a white bike.

You can get this stuff in any colour, flouro, reflective and then you can make your own, tartan, alternate colours.
