Yamaha TY250C Frame Colour

Post by Tiggs »

I want to touch up the frame on my TY250C and I also want to paint the rear swing arm after a repair. Does anyone know what rattle can silver is close? I bought a rattle can supposedly a dull silver, but it’s a bright silver and doesn’t look right at all.

Paint changes colour over time so even original paint won't be the same colour as it was in 1977 and it might have been repainted. Most TYs have either been repainted by now or the original paint looks pretty sad. The can I use is something like silver grey metalllic and it is silver but not too bright. I'll have a look in the shed later and read the can.

The wheel hubs on TY twinshocks are originally the same colour as the frame. This photo shows an original brake plate on the left end and also a hub and brake plate that I have repainted at some stage using rattle can silver grey and a clear top coat. The clear top coat makes the silver go slightly yellowish

Keen eyed observers will notice that not all front brake backing plates on TY175/250 twinshocks are the same. Another TY front brake plate (not shown) has a hole with a rubber plug in it to allow brake shoe thickness inspection without taking the wheel off the bike
