New from Brisbane

Post by jmck »

Hi All,
After 40 years since I owned a TY175, I have just purchased a 76 175 and a 84 350 mono. I am keen to know the process of getting them registered if possible. Neither have comp plates or lights. Also the best place to buy parts (apart from this forum).
Thanks to all.

The TY175 may be a lot easier than the TY350 to road register because your TY175 may be pre-ADR compliance era. If the numbers are 525-00xxxx then it is a 1975 model and you can declare it as such to the transport dept. Pre-ADR bikes don't need a compliance plate and ADR for motorbikes came into effect in Queensland in 1976.
A friend of mine had his TY mono inspected and approved by an approval engineer so he could road register it in Qld and the engineer's fee was something like $1500. His mono was a road rego version imported second-hand from Japan.
relax, nothing is under control

I would think twice about it, the cost, riding a trials bike in traffic[bloody dangerous , magnet to hwy patrol] trying to shift gears on a bike with lowest gearing out there, with a lever out of reach, don't do in front of a semi or a Plater, then there are council rangers, then damage to blinkers etc on every ride[at the destination] . Had a few, and never again. And the small tank /fuel range, pumping tyres etc etc..

Thanks David and Pop. I will focus on the 175. The purpose of rego is to allow me to access forestry trail areas, especially hill climbs.
I will not be riding on the roads.
