GG Rookie / Cadet - Loud Exhaust

Hi. Been a bit quiet in here!

Looking for some tips on how to make my son's Gas Gas TXT 80 exhaust / muffler quieter.
I have repacked the muffler with the normal muffler packing matt and it was better for a few rides, but quickly went back to what I would describe as obnoxiously loud for such a small capacity. Way louder than than my 280.

Maybe I wrapped the packing too tight?

Short of monthly muffler packing, anyone got any suggestions on how to quieten it down?
We live on small acreage - I don't want to piss the neighbours off.

Hi Ben. It may pay to check the perforated tube in the silencer to make sure all the holes in it are unclogged. If it comes out just give it a good wire brush to clean it all up. If it`s really bad throw it in a fire for a while to get all the carbon off it. Graham.

Thanks Graham - yep, burnt all of the carbon off with a gas torch and gave it a good hit with a wire brush when I did it last
I'm thinking that maybe I was a bit over zealous with how tightly I wrapped the matting. Seems that maybe the loose 'fluff' might give a better result.

I probably need to give the header pipe a good de-coking this time around as well.
