Broken Cylinder Fins.

Post by Rod »

As above, Montesa Cota barrel received some damage in transit, can this sort of damage be repaired/welded ?
Would be a tough job if it can be welded due to cooling fins only about 10mm apart, advice appreciated. I'd buy another if I could find one for a 349/4 at a reasonable price. Pic attached.

Yes Rod. Fins, even crinkly Montesa fins can be repaired.

TIG welding is the go. It helps that you still have the pieces. I can recommend George McKenzie ph 32064230

Cheers, I've heard that name mentioned somewhere before, he is possibly the man to take on the jobs that are too hard for others. I'll find out soon. Thanks again.

Make sure you get someone good like an aircraft welder.
Last time I got a head fin welded the bore was distorted when it came back.

I just saw a motor with a couple of big cooling fins broken off and lost. The owner cut some 3mm aluminium sheet and bolted it onto what was left of the fins with heatsink silicone grease. He reckoned it worked.

George built them back up for me with the TIG welder, he did a great job.
