Lathe way oil

I got a mini lathe some time back and have been using 5w fork oil on the ways and bare metal surfaces for lube and to keep surface rust away. Seems to be doing a good job at that so far, but wondering what others use.
I was going to buy proper way oil but it appears impossible to get unless you want an industrial quantity.
Does anyone have a recommendation or experience in what works for them in the home workshop?

After having it recommended to me, I use a mix of kero and chainsaw bar oil. Up here in Gladstone it gets very humid and this brew seems to work well. I put it in a small pump up spray bottle like you use for spraying weeds, you can get a model from Bunnings that is designed better to handle oil/kero mix.

Hi Jim. I just use a cheap home brand car engine oil for lubricating my Myford lathe. For actual lubricating/cooling oil on the stuff I`m machining I use a Hare and Forbes solulable oil and mix it with water.
