I know that this is a big ask, and probably contraversial! Would it be possible for owners past and present to put an 'owners story' of their TY's(both good and bad). I'm trying to piece together a history of the TY range in Australia. I have some footage of Peter Pace in action from the 70's on video, can someone tell me if Peter is still riding? I have some contacts to phone and get some insight into their TY's, so get to it and send me what you can.
Thanks.

Feet up, as always!
Peter Paice had a successful period racing Go Karts after he stopped riding Trials. He had a brief re-involvement with Trials when he and wife Dianne regularly supported their son Michael who was a reasonable rider in his own right.
Peter won the first two of his three Australian Championships on Yamaha.
In 1975 he astounded the big bike riders at Bickley, in Western Australia, when he rode a TY175 to victory, and followed it up in the Mt Kembla quagmire of 1976 aboard a TY250C.
We had hoped to get Peter to have a ride in the 2003 Masters Games in Canberra, but were unable to track him down.
Between 1973 and 1997, I rode 361 Trials on various Yamahas in ACT, NSW, Vic, Qld, SA and WA. I have nothing bad to say about any of them.
If you check the Results History page on the Trials Australia website, or on the Motorcycling Australia website, you'll find the first three placegetters in all classes at the Australian Trials Championships since they began in 1965. You will be pleasantly surprised at the number of times Yamaha appears.

I've sent you a PM with the first part of a story.
The 1976 Aussie Titles at Mt Kembla that Trevor mentioned was featured in ADB at the time and there are a couple of good photos of Peter Paice and other Yamaha riders in the feature (and lots of pictures of other brand bikes). If there is some legal way to get you a copy I will arrange it.
Another rider of note on a Yamaha that day at Mt Kembla was Craig Gillies who won Junior on a TY175. Craig rode at a high level for years and still rides occasionally in Queensland. I'm not sure which year but I think it was about 2001 that Craig rode an air-cooled TY and took out Greybeard class at the Queensland Titles ahead of all the riders on modern bikes (no mean feat to win greybeard in Queensland by the way).

Fred, I would absolutely give a part of my anatomy to get there, but work has dictated I must go there instead! One day I will come back to Denman for a Trial. Thanks to Chappy for the TY250 all those years ago! Good Luck on the 26th. Your idea of a TY Day is a good one! One sicky coming up!
David you have a pm.
This response is better than I expected! Thank you all.
I'm going to have a chat to Les Boniface soon, I'm sure he can fill a few gaps for me. He is the only 'young' bloke to 'clean' the whole day riding his TY175 a few years back.

scrivo wrote:Hi, just thought you would like to know that Peter Paice now lives in Singleton, Hunter Valley, NSW. He does not ride competatively at present but is keen to track down some of his bikes.
I am currently looking for a twin shock TY or Montesa late 70's early 80's any ideas?
Scrivo
If you watch eBay you will see plenty of twinshock trials bikes for sale within Australia. Look at http://www.eBay.com.au and use a keyword search.
Do Peter's old bikes have any unique identifying features that would help others to recognise them?
David
Hi Dave,
I have been watching EBAY but twin shocks they are a little thin on the ground. One of Peter's bikes sold recently on EBAY for only $1009 which was a 1984 Montesa 242. I missed the auction unfortuntely and he is not happy with me. I am not sure of any particular features of his bikes so will ask him next time I catch up with him.
