Event entry hide & seek

Post by bikerpete »

I've just spent considerably more time than I expected trying to find entries for 2023 Australian Champs, SA Titles, the midweek SA event & 2023 Vic Titles.
trials.au Events list shows the event date & location for Aussies, SA's, mid-week & Vics, but not even a hint at where the entry forms are hosted.
MA calendar lists the Aussies, but again, not a hint at how to enter.
MV lists nothing.
I logged into Ridernet and found the entry to Aust Champs. Why on earth MA's page doesn't link to Ridernet is a complete mystery to me!
Back into trials.au and look through all the menu options until I noticed Entry Place and found the Vic Titles in there. I later found Ridernet lists it and also links to Entry Place - nice.
I found a link to trialsport.com.au for the SA Titles, but it returns "page not found". Bit more hunting & I get the idea the committee is still putting that one together.
I'm guessing it's the same for the midweek event maybe.
Now it's wait for the next round of hide and seek to start when the SA's and midweek open up somewhere, sometime.

I completely get it that nearly all this stuff happens by volunteers, but making it hard to find the entry forms isn't going to do anything to increase entry numbers!
I had hoped that trials.au might be the central directory, with links out to wherever is hosting the entries, but not the case. Even just a hint to where entries will be hosted would be useful for those of us who aren't seasoned veterans of all this.

Currently it seems to be a dogs breakfast with multiple Facebook pages to check (I don't have a fakebook account so that's an added bit of self imposed friction), trials.au, Ridernet, Entry Place, maybe trialsport and who knows what else.

MA's Ridernet is horrendous for finding anything on in my opinion.
It took me about 5 times as long as it should have to locate the entry for the Aus titles on there.
It just seems to have an illogical set out.

I believe MA has decided that Aus Champ entries should be through ridernet and hence the issues there.

The other various club entries are pretty good, as you say I don't think SA have released details on the other events yet.

I don't have a big problem with any of the booking platforms, be it Ridernet, Entry Place or whatever. I can learn how to drive them and deal with most quirks.

It's finding out where each event has it's entries that gave me grief.
How was an unsuspecting Victorian punter to know that Aussies are through Ridernet? No doubt if you're experienced in these things you'd know, but I only found it by trial and error.
I've only been competing 4 years, and only in Vic. Every event I've entered previously was available through trials.au so that's all I knew.

It looks like Denman use Entry Place, rest of NSW I don't know, most (but not all) Vic events use Entry Place, WA use Ridernet, QLD I'm not sure, Tas - no idea, SA looks like Ridernet.
I haven't bothered looking further, but MV calendar doesn't have any trials events listed despite MA listing the Vic Titles and I believe the event being MV sanctioned. That suggests it's possibly pointless going to the various State sites to find info.

Maybe another potential positive for the MA Moto Trials Australia proposal - all the clubs would be talking to each other more directly so maybe a common calendar with links to entry sites might fall into place.

Most people in Trials are willing to help, if there is something you want to know the best course of action is to call/talk to one of the experienced members.
Not everything is easily found online and could be sorted out quite quickly with a conversation between the right people.

I figured the people organising these things probably don't want a bunch of nuftys like me phoning them up in the middle of work or family time asking dumb questions like "how do I enter", so I blundered around trying to solve it myself, which I did eventually.
Besides, I had no clue who to call about Aussies until I found the Supp Regs on Ridernet, by which time the problem was solved.

Obviously I'm now better educated about how these things work, but it would be great to have a single central national calendar that linked out to wherever you need to go for more info & entries.
Optimistic I know because everyone has their ways of doing things, but it would be nice.
