Best fuel recommended for TY250 1974

Post by Sharkie86 »

Hi,

Just wondering what type of fuel most air cooled bike owners are using?
I have a 74 TY250 that I was running Ampol 91 (blue symbol at the bowser), but noticed the fuel lines had become rock hard. Don’t know if the previous owner had used ethanol (E10) based fuels in it or something. Is there any issue with running a 95 based fuel to ensure no ethanol could be present?

Is 91 non ethanol fuel what most ppl are using?

Regards

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,
I have always used BP Ultimate for my 75 model TY250, and it seems to go well.
BP Ultimate is 98 at the bowser.

I have not really experimented with other fuels so I cannot say BP Ultimate is the best option for your bike.
I installed electronic ignition to my TY a few years ago which is just awesome.
All the best ,
Carl :D

I run 98 in everything.
Bikes, mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, my old Land Rovers and Gen 2 Pajero.
2 strokes always at 32:1 for everything old or new.

Hi Carl and Whitehillbilly,

Thanks for the info. Nice bike you have. Here is a couple of photos of mine. I can’t take credit for the restoration work though haha.

I’ll give the BP 98 a go.

I have bought some Castrol TTS 2t oil as well from MXstore to give a run with it. I was using the Penrite 2t oil from Supercheap Auto, I am hoping it’ll run a bit better with these changes.

Thanks again. Am getting back into trials since a break from 2008 and am loving it!!

Cheers

Jeremy
