Some Twinshocks at a local ride last Sunday

Post by David Lahey »

There were thirteen riders at a local club ride last Sunday at Calliope, near Gladstone, of whom four rode Twinshocks.
The Fantic 240 is currently owned by Club President Allan McDonald. He is progressively overhauling it and has plans to ride it in Twinshock Class competition. It has an interesting provenance having been previously owned by Robert Marsden, Tony Bax, Dave McDonald and the original owner, whose name I have forgotten. I remember Brendan Hornsby RIP riding this bike in a big event (a Titles maybe) when he was young, while it was owned by Robert Marsden.
Don Jones rode his TY175JC which he has had for about 15 years and recently fitted a two piece WES exhaust which has made it run very well. It is running the original 1976 Yamaha shocks and they still work!
Alex Jones rode his recently-built TY175 big-bore special which is almost sorted out. It has a George McKenzie 205cc motor, Keihin carburettor, lengthened frame, TY250 front end, electronic ignition, WES exhaust, long aluminium swingarm and Shedworks tank/seat. The tubeless rim rear wheel is not ready yet.
I rode the other two Yamahas, three laps each. I love being able to compare bikes on the same sections. One is a TY250 A/B/D but with OKO carby, WES exhaust, low footpegs, lightened flywheel, 350mm Falcons and made to look like one of Peter Paice's bikes from the mid 1970s. The other is my Godden Yamaha Majesty 250 which has been recently redecorated.
