Could someone interpret the new 2007 rules for me in regards to its application for 2007 and Trials.

I would suggest an email to MA and ask how this would affect the Juniors in Trials that ride in open grade classes normally and then drop back into Juniors for the Titles.

It would be a shame to see the juniors waiting around in Juniors so they can have a go at the titles rather than getting better competing in the higher grades.

The age based on a fixed date for all riders is good as I have known of riders who turned 16 days before the titles and not been able to ride. My daughter scrapped in by only a few days in 2004 as she turned 16 days after the event.

Given MX seem to have many junior age groups with many capacity classes, I think I'm reading this doen't really apply to Trials Juniors who are either over or under 16 at a particular date, and capacity is not restricted in either case. However I could also read that if a jnr entered A B or C once, then they are stuck at that level not to drop back at any event let alone a state title.

I agree, the Jan 1 date is a good thing as it removes the confusion for everyone.

I also agree with cadman on the "jnr entering A grade" comment.

Seems like once again, trials riders are completely disregarded when it comes to blanket rule changes. I wonder if anyone at MA actually sits down and goes through each discipline to see how it would affect them, or, heaven forbid, seek feedback from a commisioner.
(Of course I don't know that that didn't actually occur, in which case our trials commisioners should pipe up right about...now, to explain how this one works in Trials.)

I thought something like that too Keith. I needed to increase the size of the files for avatars to 90,000 Bytes and 100x100 pixels.

All the commisioners would be on their way home from Perth so we may have to wait a few days.

back to the topic in question.........

I wasnt aware of the new junior rule till i got the email after gettin home form the nationals.... and i assume the other commissioneers were the same....

Apparently the SCB's were consulted and all SCB's agreed with the change.....

What does it mean for juniors in moto trials..... My interpreatation at present is:

A junior's age on Jan 1 will be the age they are considered as for the remainder of that calendar year. Hence if a Junior is 15 of Jan 1 but turns 16 on Jan 2... for all of that year they will still be considered juniors and may ride the Aust Champs as a Junior even though they may be (assuming Oct National Championship) 16years and 10 months old.....

To my understanding... no other changes will occur to moto trials.... Riding in a higher class than juniorn during the year and then dropping back to juniors for the nationals will still be allowed and appropriate...

If my understanding and interpretaion of the above changes at any time i will let you know.....

But basically the only change for us is.... age on Jan 1 is your age for the entire year..... and juniors may be 16 and still compete at the Aust champs under the new rule....

rather obscure reply. The emphasis really was not on whether Elyse is 16, 17 or turning 18 on Sunday, or how time flies! I assume this was just a smoke screen as you have removed the offensive item, thankyou! Just think a bit next time about who is perusing this website & act appropriately.

Yes Ben Z, back to the topic at hand. Research I have read on this subject suggests it is introduced into many junior sports because it is easier to administer. However, there is distinct advantage to kids who are born earlier in the year. They are more likely to be chosen for rep teams & are more likely to win against other say 16 year olds, who can be almost a year younger. They are able to compete in the younger class for a longer time than kids who's Birthdays fall late in the year & therefore have greater oportunity to do well in the younger class.
Personally, I think when you have your Birthday you should proceed to the next age group as everyone has the same oportunities in each class.
