Neo, you have a good point there! Find a good gnarly section for observer and rider to use and get them follow the rules to the letter. No gardening, time limits, the works! Or get them to change places and see what happens!
I thought we had to ride to the conditions laid out by the Organising Club? All obstacles to ridden as is. No gardening, no moving markers etc. If you are an Expert or a new rider, we should be able to help each other through the sections. Experience counts for everything. We can't lose any riders or observers.
If you cheat, you only cheat yourself!

The thing is the observer isn't a proffessional and they are volunteering their time... Sometimes mistakes are made and they end up working for and against you. As austini said people don't point out to the observer that they technically fived it or dropped another dabs but will argue and be rude to observers when they get a point when they shouldn't have. It probably shouldn't have been a point, but straight after he rolls back a few cm in the same section? Shouldn't that be a five? but he got away with it aswell as other things.
Mmmmm again,
Nice one on the spelling Maree....... but it wain't muah... (werent me)
But i did just get a packet of seeds in the mail!!!!
Tall Poppies.............. The label says the bigger they get more you should prune them to keep them in full bloom
I have no props with obsevers, I take the good with the bad and I am the worst, just ask! I tried to 5 a 6yr old for taking out the section gate and had to argue the front axle rule with an irate father!!!!!! As a volunteer I gave in and let the ankle biter off..... I know I'm all heart
I can say watching the world round in Deluth two years ago all the top pilots were using their toes to get a grip on the tree stump in the stadium section when it was wet and only the ones that fell off lost points. I did suggest a training DVD for observers a while ago but it seems unless I did it no one else would.......
At least we got a write up on the event and it does appear Kev can spell better than me!

I asked the observer of section 9 if he would like to make a comment on this thread to which he replied "ZZZZzzzzzzz!!!!!!" He has pointed out though that the next WA Nats would be two laps of 14 sections not 15!! as he wouldn't be there.
It's a good thing that every expert that has a iffy decision go against him doesn't take the matter up with the C of C or the event results still wouldn't be decided.

I reckon trials is much the same - it is give and take (a dab here and there). But regardless, I still think observers are sacred and shouldn't be given a blast by riders (that's what stewards and C of C's are for
So if an observer has quit-for-good because of something a rider did then I hope a sincere apology by the rider is forthcoming bloody quick.
Now that I think about it though, I do remember a time when bagging the ref was almost a national pastime (dreadful time the '80's

I think that what it comes down to is that as observers we are human. There isn't any video ref to check with. We call the shots as we see them. There is no 'observing qualification' that we have to pass in order to volunteer our time, energy and dedication to the sport.
As long as there is consistency with every rider in that section for the day then I believe that it's all 'swings and roundabouts'.
Start making life too tough for observers and it could end up being
"Todays trial will be 15 laps of 2 sections"
Regards
Maree

Trials.......the family sport
BJ, On the observer training DVD, the commission is pursuing this with the tentative plan on having something available next year (note i didnt specify when in the year!!! So don't start hounding us on Jan 1 saying its next year now!!)
Michelle has had some discussions with Paul Arnott on the topic and I understand that Paul has offered his expertise time and equipment to assist us with the project...
So basically... we have started work on this one... and now the silly season is all but over... Hopefully we can develop a plan of the structure and content of the DVD and then move to the production stage.
Cheers

Enough of the bagging each other out. Some of us ride, some of us observe and some do both. Riders keep this shit up and there will be no observers and no events. Observers if someone gets upset tell them to see clerk of course if they can't agree on a call you have made. I havent been on this site for a while and I am disgusted to be associated with trials. Pull your heads in, agree everyone has their own opinions and GET OVER IT.
P.S. All you gutless people who cant put your names to your posts should be removed from this site. (how about it Keith?)
